Decided to take hillside as my first single track ride after taking a two year break from riding.

After buying my wife a bike and getting the motivation to get back into shape and loosing some weight (a desk job adds a few lbs) I met up with an old high school buddy and another freind of mine who never rode single track before, ever!!! and both of them showed my fat ars whats up.

I really need to ride more and build up an endurance for that as I was walking my bike up some of those climbs.

but all in all it was great to get back out on the single track and get a good workout, I miss living in duluth for that reason.

hillside is a workout no matter how in shape you are. you are either going up, or coming down. not much in between.

it'll snap you into shape real quick

I don't know that Hill side will compair. I have never rode there, but Theo I know. Theo is tight and twisty. The climbs are short, compaired to leb. We tryed to keep Theo very natural. Very few log crossings, 2 rock gardens, 6 rock armored crossings, and some insloped turns for varity.
On the north lope, about 16-20 mins is a good time for a lap. Depending on weather, It takes about 2-3 day to dry out realy well.

There were a little wet spots at hillside and then it started to rain so we got off the trail early.

At hillside its a continuous set of twist and turns, with many switch back climbs and decents, no real flat spots to catch your breath (which right now I need ;) ) but all in all hillside was a great workout for my first time back to the single track in two years.

hopefully I can get back there and possibly theo soon with my new bike.

two completely different trails, only similarity is they're both outdoors and on dirt. i personally think theo is more fun, but hillside will make you think (and possibly vomit) more.

theo is just plain fun. i rode there on monday and it seemed every rider in the metro was there. i've heard of the kenwood rides, but i never imagined how popular they are. i had a great time cutting a lap with people i never met before, and then ran into a group i knew. fun, fun, fun, for now on my mondays are taken.

I rode Theo for the first time yesterday (Sunday) and had an absolute blast, props out to those who built it, it is just plain fun!

As for how it compares to Hillside, they are way different. Hillside is demanding, constant climbs, it is a lung buster and leg burner. Theo, well it flows and is fast, and tons of fun. Totally different ride than Hillside.

Josh, I would recommend this for your next ride, it will help you get your legs back.

If you can ride Hillside, Theo should give you no problems, as it is much less up and down.

Is Elk River still charging to ride there? If so how much?

That is a good reason to do trail work over there, a free ride.

I rode that trail 2 years ago, it kicked my butt, especially the last 1/2 when I could see the parking lot but still was not done. I remember it being a lot of up at the end.

Last time there was trail work up there they were handing out free season passes, don't know if that will be a regular thing though.
