I lived in Duluth while I was going to school and picked up Mnt. Biking to get out and enjoy the summers in Duluth. I started doing the Monday night rides with the Ski Hut folks and that was a blast, even for a newby like myself.
Now I am down here in the cities and wondering if there were any local riders to the Anoka/Coon Rapids/Ramsey area? and just wondering if there are any good trails up this way? (besides the blast trail in Elk River, and the Rum River single track)

Theo would be the next closest mentionable trail. Short but a fun trail. I live in Andover and try to get out at least 2 times a week if your interested. I'm not a grinder....just out to enjoy the ride.

Yeah, there isn't a whole lot of great trails up here besides Hillside and such. There are a few smaller trails however not as good, Elm Creek, etc. I'm hoping something else goes in up here soon.

I agree you should try Theo. It’s not much further to drive than Elk River and is a fun trail, very similar to Hillside but without all the hills. If it ever dries out Milaca is a great trail also.

I am always up for a little ride. I gain'd a little too much gut weight in college as well as having a desk job now so I am trying to get out at least 4 - 5 nights a week.
I've been out every night for the last 4 days so far. Bought the wife a new Gary Fisher Advance last night, she wants to get into biking again so got her something simple to start out with. Now I am lookin for a new bike myself, Im riding a 02 Specialized Hardrock Comp, its a good bike, just a little heavy for my tastes but all I could afford at the time.
Hit me up in a PM or AIM (UMDivX is my aim name) or umdivx at gmail dot com and we can me up for a ride.

Just checked out info on Theo, sounds like a great ride. However what sucks for me is I no longer have my truck to easily transport my bike and right now i'd rather save my pennies to buy a new bike then get a bike rack.
But if anyone ever wants to bum me and my bike a ride to theo I'd be willing to sacrafice some time :)

No problem... I've got enough room for about 5 bikes and people.

sweet... BTW any of you guys have any recomendations on a $500 - $700 bike? I'm sorta lookin for a new bike now that I got my wife a new bike. I love my Hardrock but its just a tad bit heavy, looking for a new lighter bike that might possibly come with a better front fork than the Judy TT that I have and also disc breaks.

Not as technologically advanced as a Specialized, but you can't beat the component spec of a Giant in that price range. I think Pioneer Cycles in Blaine carries them and possibly Eriks if I remember right.

Check out Erik's off of Hanson and 10. Good bunch of guys and a nice selection of bikes. You might want to look for a used bike in that price range. You can sometimes get some good deals from guys with disposable incomes and a need to have new stuff. (Guys without kids):D

Josh, what up, good to hear from riders in this area. I also live in Andover and ride as much as possible. The dam has some decent single track, although you will find yourself riding the same trails to get a really good work out. Theo is nice, Rum River works, but Elk is the best in the area.
Check our Ramsey Bicycles for a new ride, the carry Giant, Trek, Gary Fischer for Mtb's, also Erik's by Lifetime, their staff at this location rocks.
If you (or anyone else) are ever looking for someone to ride with, give me a call (I am married with a kid, so my time is limited, but I try to ride 3+ times a week), my cell phone is 612-432-7927, just let me know when you call that you got my number from MORC, or I might be really confused.
I would love to see something new be built up in the NW metro area, maybe there is some room for MORC to get involved up here. Although I haven't yet, I would be willing to put in some hours of trail work/building (most of the build sites are so far away from my house that I can't get there after work).

I went to Erik's on Monday and wan't too impressed with their sales guys or maybe the guy who was working with me wasn't much of a sales gay as he may have been a service tech or something, but any questions I had he was stumbling and couldn't answer them well.
oh well maybe i'll stop by again and see if I get better luck with somene else.

Adam, you dont recongize my name do you?? you should as we went to school together and were on the ski team together as well. You and Kermit got me into racing in the first place.
Glad to hear your doing good, I am also married, but no kids yet. Both my wife and I graduated from good old UMD.
But anyways, I just picked up a new bike for my wife at Ramsey Bicycles, picked her up a Gary Fisher Advance, I like the bike, works good for her, but may be a little on the lower end for my type of riding, but since I got her a new bike I am now in the mood for a new one myself.
but anyways I will hit you up with a call some time it'd be fun to meet up again.

EDIT: The trails by the library and Anoka HS are decent enough.
And regarding looking for a bike, Ebay. There is always a risk, but I scored a really solid bike for $600. Just my 2 cents.

Just a note, Hillside is overgrown quite a bit at the moment. I plan on clearing most of it next week. Also look out for several trees down:
Section 1, 1/2 mile from end around a corner (hard to see).
Section 2, top of last hill (temporary bypass to the left).
Section 2, right before the end (jump over this on the left).
Section 3, right after table-top going up the large S hill.
Section 3, about 1/2 way through (log pile going over for now).
Section 3, after you see the road, going up the hill (ride over).
Section 3, towards the end (nothing major, ride over).
They will be cleared sometime soon I think. I'll be on the MS150 or else I'd go with ya. Hava a good time!

Thanks for the info, last time I rode Elk I almost took my head off on one of the fallen trees.
