There have to be others here who have gone. I grew up in Mason City, IA. I did my first RAGBRAI when I was 14 and have been going every year since. You could say that I grew up on RAGBRAI where I learned how to drink and party all night, and still ride the next day. If you go to bed late enough, and start riding early, you never get time to get a hangover.

This year will be #21. Over the years the character of the ride has changed, but still remains to be a very good time... albeit a bit more commercialized now than in the past.

The first 10 years, I attended with some organized group or took some sort of party van. For the last 10, I've taken to going self-contained. I've been packing up my stuff on my bike, riding down to western Iowa, across to some point, then ridden home. Some of the past 10 have been abbreviated actual RAGBRAI routes for me, but still have ranged anywhere from 500 on upward. The longest year for me was 1,155 miles in 12 days. Last year was 820 in 8 days.

I know that John @ Kenwood also goes self contained and rides down too.
