My wife and I have recently gotten into the sport, and are hauling our bikes up to Alexandria this weekend. I am looking for two very different trails:

One we can tow our son's trailer on, and an off-road one so we can give that a shot. Anybody know of anything that may interest us being extremely new to mountain biking?

I am willing to drive a half-hour to forty five minutes to find such a place.

Thanks for your help, look forward to participating in these forums...

Chris,

Welcome to the MORC message boards and welcome to the great sport of mountain biking! Sorry this is a little late. Hope you were able to find some riding up there. Next time you are in the area, check out Birch Lakes State forest just north of Melrose. There is some fairly primitive singletrack trail riding there. It's a pretty park that would be awesome if there were more people in the area to ride it.

Welcome, and hope to see ya on the trails some time.

Rather than starting a new thread, though I would bump this one. Anything new in the area?

I will be in Alexandria all nex week teaching a class and was wondering if there are any MTB trails within about a 30 minute drive.

If not I guess it is the road bike.

There are some paved trails that run right through downtown Osakis, that I think might run all the was to Alexandria, if you want to give that a shot, otherwise I never found anything. I hope to do some more exploring this summer, in addition to calling a bike shop up there...

Maybe try calling these guys. This is a nice LBS in Alex. They would probably know if there are MTB trails. I know the Central Lakes paved trail is popular in that area.

I'll give them a call today.

You would think that there has to be something for MTB in the area. If not, I've got the road bike.

Post what you find out. I will be up that way this summer.

I just spoke with Bike and Fitness in Alex and the only trails for MTB are in the Lake Carlos State Park. The website and map indicates it is for hiking but the bike shop said that they have permission to ride it as long as you don't tear it up or spook the hikers.

Here is the map from the DNR website:

I'll probably bring both bikes and give the park a try. If not I'll be on the road bike.
