If you spent a few seconds on the home page before diving into the latest slew of forum posts, you might've noticed that the new MORC limited edition "Riders" t-shirt is available for purchase, either online or by mail. I just wanted to say a little bit more about the t-shirts and why we're selling them.
First of all, have a look.
T-shirt front:

T-shirt back:

Like almost everything MORC does, the t-shirt was a volunteer effort. The design for the front was done by Ted Olson (http://www.pod225.com). The new MORC logo on the back of the short was designed by Scott Shore (http://www.luredesign.net). Both guys donated their time and talents to help MORC. They rock.
We're calling the shirts "Limited Edition" because we'll only sell them this year. Next year, new fundraising challenge, new t-shirt design. The shirts sell for $15 each ($17 for XXLs). The shirts feature a two-color design on an organic cotton shirt, in Men's S, M, L, XL and XXL. We just did our first batch, and more than half of them are gone already. Fear not, we will print more.
We're going to do a run of women's baby tees in a light blue color that just smokes. We did a very small batch of these for our first run, and they went in seconds at the Spring Cup. Plese reply to this post or send me a PM if you're interested. We want to get an idea of how many of these we can move before we place another order.
The t-shirts are one of several projects we're undertaking this year to raise money needed to complete the trails and Theo Wirth and start the new ones at Murphy Hanrehan. MORC President Scott Thayer and our IMBA Reps Erik Gerrits and Tim Wegner have worked tirelessly to secure funding from a variety of sources to make these and more new trails a reality. But a lot of that funding comes in the form of matching grants, for which we need cash.
So, to paraphrase a great American statesman, ask not if you need another t-shirt: ask if you need another trail. And put your money where you want your knobbies to go.

Is it random on when these shirts will be available for viewing at the local trails?
I wanted to see one in person, but pretty sure I want one.
Yeah, it might be a good idea if someone where to show up at the Theodore Wirth Grand Opening (on Saturday June 4th, at the corner of Theodore Wirth Parkway and highway 55) and sell some of these kick a$$ new shirts. It might be a very lucrative idea.I bought mine already, and no self respecting Minnesota off-road rider should be without one.:etard:

Someone [played by me] will be at the Theo Wirth Grand Opening, hawking kick a$$ shirts and MORC memberships. I'll be comfortably ensconced in the also-brand-spankin'-new MORC pop-up tent, enjoying what's sure to be a gorgeous day and hopefully meeting all of y'all I've met here in pixels, in person.
Stop by and say hi.

Erik, W T, you guys are rock stars and a credit to the two-wheeled universe in all of its hardpacked twisty flow-mad singletrack on a sunny afternoon glory. Say it with me now, loud: I'm MORC and I'm proud.

If I had a vehicle, or actually knew the bus routes I'd be a member already :D
The shirts are just added incentive?

Melissa,
Depending on where in Plymouth you are, you might be able to take a paved bike path all the way to Theo. PM me and maybe we can figure out an easy way for you to come out and enjoy the mountain bike trails.
Also, do not be afraid to ask for a ride if you want to go to any of the rides and can't figure out a way to get there.
Hope to see you Saturday.

The shirts are separate from memberships (read: not included with a membership). They're $15 and the proceeds go towards trail projects at Wirth and Murphy-Hanrehan.
Memberships are $25 and that money goes towards trail projects, tool acquisition, membership communication and membership events.
Sent a PM to you James, and I'll print out the form to buy a shirt then!
Thanks
Melissa, if you're not averse to coming in early on Saturday, it's possible I/we could meet you somewhere you can find to ride the rest of the way in. More riding is always better than less riding, and having you be able to get to Theo anytime you want is best of all. :)
Moving this weekend actually, and brother's graduation party next weekend. But it really would be great if I can find a way to get there biking wise. Since I bike everywhere I go right now.
I live west of town, in Minnetonka, and I'm planning on riding the trail in. I live near the intersection of Minnetonka Blvd and 494. If you can get to there (there's a trail that goes North and South along 494 all the way to 394) we could pedal in together.

Unfortunately, tent and t-shirt schlepping obligations will prevent me from being able to bike to the event. That said, my ride will be on the roof rack and I hope to catch a lap or two between hawking shirts and memberships and trying to weasel my way into photo ops with RT...

We need to get a shirt to RT... and his signature on the membership dotted line.

(http://www.morcmtb.org/images/tshirt.jpg)This shirt will be available for purchase at trailheads around the Twin Cities metro area through the spring, summer and fall of 2005 only. I would like to see a shirt before I buy one. I am out of town this weekend and next. Are these going to be at certain trailheads, any special times, dates? I want to buy it in person, so I can wear it as soon as I get it.

We've been so busy gearing up for the Theo Wirth Grand Opening that we haven't really developed a schedule beyond this weekend. However, this is something we need to do. I know that we'll have a BIG work session at Battle Creek in either late June or early July that we'll bring the tent and t-shirts out for, but there should be oppotunities before then as well.
Short, useful answer: Watch the home page and the forums for details.
Thanks for your interest.

Thank you. That works for me, and I understand about all the time for the Grand Opening. Wish I could be there. Battle Creek is near me, so that will be great. I'll keep a look out for information.
Thanks again!
Looking out in the rain...ouch not the best of days for Theo Wirth Grand Opening.
Stay dry guys!

Thanks to Charles for coming out and braving the rain today at the Theo Demo Grand Opening!
I know that MOCA has received the lion's share of attention lately - but keep in mind that MORC is kept running on volunteer efforts as well, and could really use help on other projects.
These guys can't do everything by themselves, please step up and find a way to help out by supporting MORC.

Ah, where to begin with the thank-yous?
First, and most importantly, to everyone who gave up riding/family/relaxation/vacation/sanity time to lend a hand in building the first legit singletrack in the city of Minneapolis. You've set the bar higher than anyone could've possibly expected and made huge fans out of even the skeptics. Naming all the names would be impossible, but you know who you are.
Second, to the Minneapolis Parks & Recreation Board, for trying something new, unproven and unprecedented: three words not commonly associated with government at any level. Riders should never forget that what's been accomplished at Theo couldn't have happened without this half of the partnership. Special thanks to Jennifer Ringold and Bob Fine for sticking out the whole grand opening, rain and all.
Thirdly, to everyone who tolerated my hypercaffeinated sales pitch for MORC memberships and t-shirts today. I won't apologize for being more amped than usual about what we do, but y'all were a tolerant bunch (the tent may have helped). Extra-large thanks to Gary Shantz, Chris Cutts and Tom Morrissey, who came in out of the rain long enough to sign up or renew memberships with generous contributions. Probably just to get me to shut up.
Finally, to R.T. Rybak, for being an advocate for off-road biking from day one, and for keeping a promise that meant showing up on a miserable day and at least acting like you were genuinely happy to be there (although I suspect it wasn't an act).
Enjoy the trail, folks. I know I will.

And on another note, thanks to a helmetless Shad for providing the perfect background shot to go with the Channel 4 reporter's comments about the Park Board initially thinking that mountain bikers were "...a bunch of beer-drinking, wheelie-popping weirdos." Man, did you ever look the part. :etard:
