Anyone catch the July 2005 issue of Mountain Bike? There is an article called Riding Urban Grime - "The Mountain Bike guide to eating, sleeping and playing in 10 great American cities - and the riding is world-class too." in which Minneapolis/St. Paul, of course, was included.

Better yet, they wrote up a nice little review of Lebanon and mentioned MORC (and the web site of course).

Not sure how legal it is to quote the entire article, but here are a few sections:

"Thirty minutes from downtown Minneapolis you can ride on 8 miles of the best technical singletrack in the area. The 80-acre Lebanon Park has four, one-way loops to accomodate all abilities. The hard-pcked ground is fast, but good luck keeping a race pace when you're weagine tight turns through a forest of maple, ash, cottonwood, pine and red and white oak. Hit a clearing and you'll bounce through rock gardens and bunny over logs. Should you want to try a few stunts, push your limits on Minnesota's interpretation of North Shore-style stunts. The roughly mile-long, bland beginner's loop serves as an appetizer to the increasingly hearty intermediate, expert and advanced-expert (or XX) loops to come. before the turn-off for the expert loop, you'll bomb two-thirds of the intermediate trail. The XX trail contains ditch spanning bridges that range from 1 inch to 2.5 feed off the ground, as well as tabletops, twisty-turny technical singletrack and enough 2-foot drops to keep you guessing. The trail creators, Minnesota Off Road Cyclists, have made bypasses around each obstacle, just in case the mere sight of a stunt leaves you murmuring for your mama."

....

I'm sure the north-shore guys aren't packing their bags just yet.. but it is fun to see us get mentioned all the same. Penn Cycle and Doolittles Cafe got props too.

Not MBA, Mountain Bike. (I know, they all sound the same)

I'm thinking it might have been a local rider doing the article. (Ryan Dionne if anyone has heard of him)

If you are there every day after school, you helping to keep riders off the trail during this wet spell? ;)

Ahh. The membership levels are basically just a way of designating different levels of financial commitment to MORC. Every membership level entitles you to get MORC member discounts at various shops, and receive the MORC newsletter by mail (it'd available free as a download as well). We're sending out MORC stickers with every membership right now. Once we get done with those we'll put some thought into a new freebie for new or renewing members.

In general, we try to put most of our membership dollars into funding trail projects and the like, so we haven't done a lot of high-dollar incentives. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, so membership contributions at any level may be tax deductible. This year, we're adding fundraisers like the new t-shirts and a raffle to help us raise additional capital for trail building.

That said, money isn't the only way to support MORC. We value volunteer contributions just as much if not more. Especially for trail work, which is what keeps the trails we have in the metro area open and helps us build a convincing case for building new trails throughout the state.

All of which is a long-winded way of saying, any contribution you make will be valued. Hope that answers your question. If not, I'll be happy to try again...

I had forgotten about the phone call I got about 2-3 months ago from MB. I think I spoke to the guy for about 2 hours all together over about 3 days. Tried to make sure MORC got the recognition and some nice press. Havn't seen the article yet.
