Trail for the North side

ROSEVILLE RESIDENTS
I ask any residents of Roseville to speak out. Tim and I attended a meeting with the City of Roseville last week to discuss the idea of putting Mountain Bike trails into Resivoir Woods. Right now in there plan for the parks there isn't anything mentioning Mountain Bike trails. They will need support from residents of Roseville. So I ask that anyone that lives in Roseville to step and post here or feel free to email me at erikgerrits@gmail.com. I can put you in touch with someone at the city of Roseville to give you comments.
I am sure that more info is wanted so feel free to post up questions.
Based on the information posted by Erik and my own personal interest and support for this trail, I'm posting this thread so that people can share their ideas and show their support.

Here is some information for those of you who may be unfamiliar with the park or the location:
Reservoir Woods Park (http://www.ci.roseville.mn.us/parks/ParksandShelters/parks/reservoir_woods/index.htm) (CONP)
115.00 acres
Victoria Street through Dale Street
Take a walk in the fall in Reservoir Woods and with every step you will hear the crunch of leaves under your feet. You can walk for miles in this 120-acre Roseville park and see little sign of development. There is no playground equipment or ballfields or skating rinks — just hilly terrain with lots of pine trees, wetlands, prairie grass, and savanna. It is a place to enjoy natural, untamed beauty.
Before it was a Roseville park, the land in Reservoir Woods was owned by the St. Paul Water Authority and Roselawn Cemetery. The site, which includes some of the highest ground in Roseville, is home to a 30-million gallon, underground water reservoir that for years had been operated by the City of St. Paul. When the reservoir became outdated, St. Paul sold the land to the City of Roseville in 1997. That land was added to 34 acres of land that the City leases from Roselawn Cemetery to create the park.
Neighborhood task forces and park and recreation planners expressed the wish that this new park remain pristine and forest like. Outside of adding a pathway, the only development the City has done is to restore eroding soft trails and eradicate invasive plants such as buckthorn and purple loosestrife.
I don't know what Tim or Erik have planned out for the number of miles or type of trails that they estimate could be built. I'd imagine that even if the trails were confined to the area between Dale and Victoria, several miles of trail could be built. There is quite a bit of variation in elevation that could make for some exciting trails.

I would be interested in helping build.

Thanks Ken, for getting another thread going about this. The park has a lot of potential. It'd be great to get something going in there. Roseville residents really need to speak up. I can show my support for a trail nearby, being from
Shoreview, but it means a lot more when the city hears it from it's own taxpayers. So, Roseville residents, rally!
If we sold the trails as multi-use, rather than Mtb only, would it help our cause? Erik G., what was the initial proposal?
I'm very interested in helping any way possible.

I think its a great idea. I live in Mounds View and more trails close to home is always good. Sweet.

The trail is proposed as a multi use trail. Hikers, trail runners, snow shoers (sp?) and mountain biking.
Ken thanks for posting this up. Remember people you must know someone who lives in Roseville that would be interested.

I'm always interested in helping w. a "close to home" trail like this, I'm just not sure what I can do initially as a non-Roseville resident at this stage. Res woods has a lot of potential, and there are also quite a few areas of the current "as-is" trails that could use maintenance/re-routing.
Using the current trails, I've been able to put together about a 2 mile ride. The first map is put together from some hacked-up gps tracks of the area, the other is just a USGS topo of the same area. I've not done a lot of exploring in the southeast segment down near the Cemetary and the dog park.

I'm also really interested in helping build this trail. I live in Arden Hills, so it's close. I used to live Dale Terrace appartments, which are only 2 blocks from the park. Used to run the current trails daily - it would be good to see some better trails in there.

I didn't vote. I would like to see trail there, but have too much interest in working on Theo, Leb, and the freeride movement to be able to think I could actually help.

Given my role in MORC (stuff maker-upper), I figure there's something I can do to help support this effort.
On a related note, in a metropolitan area as small as the Twin Cities, I hope that the local government would be open to consider productive use by non-residents as a positive. One need not be a resident of Minneapolis to enjoy our parks (including the trails at Theo Wirth). Perhaps a little quid pro quo is in order...

I'm in the area, also, so if you guys can get something going - it looks like we have the numbers around here to make it happen. Otherwise, the arsenal in Arden Hills would be a good place to try and get into - I saw a plan for what was proposed last month, it shows a LOT of park areas... especially towards the northern section along Cty Rd I.

Howdy-
I live in Shoreview (not Roseville, sorry!), but would be willing to help build if anything is approved for Res Woods. Did a little bit of building on the Wirth trail last year, and I can even provide my own shovel.:D
With regard to the Army Ammo plant in Arden Hills--is the National Guard still planning to keep most of the interesting hilly stuff for themselves?

As far as I know, yes, although I haven't heard it discussed much recently by the plans guys either.

I'm actually up off of County I (which is why I salivate at the possibility of riding in the Arsenal), but I grew up near the Snail Lake Open Space...I can remember a time when the trails back there weren't paved. :)

If anyone is interested: I did manage to find a link for Arden Hills' master plan for the Arsenal...I think there's even a contact person buried in here someplace.

The metro area needs more trails. This sounds great. I live in Washington county , land of high taxes and no trails, so i'am very willing to help when i can.
Whom should we contact?
