OK I am breaking my silence one last time then it's forever.
Please take 5 minutes out of your day today and call your senators and let them know that you are counting on them to vote AGAINST the Sessions ammendment to the Senate transportation bill, S. 732. This ammendment would strip bicycle trail and transit options funding from the transportation bill. The fate of the proposed Crosby-Ironton MTB area, as well as many other bicycling options, may be in your hands.
Find your senator here: http://www.nrdcaction.org/legdirectory/index.asp?step=7.
Learn more about the ammendment here: http://www.nrdcaction.org/action/index.asp?step=2&item=52763.
This is very time-critical because the vote on the ammendment is scheduled for tonight.
How about you all report back here after you have made the calls?
Thanks
Mark

I'm guessing that the NRDC and I do not see eye-to-eye politically. I'll set that aside for a second.
I've contacted each of my representatives regarding the elmination of trail funding (only) in the ammendment.
Brian
Thanks for taking action.

I've made my calls. Assuming you live in Minnesota, we all have the same 2 senators, so here are their phone numbers.
Dayton - 202-224-3244 Wash. 612-727-5220 Local
Coleman 202-224-5641 Wash. 651-645-0325 Local

Are you against clean water and air?
This is not directed at Brian.
In my opinion......we have a society of Left and Right. Those leaning Right don't want anything to do with any Left leaning organization, even if it's for the good of Earth. It's just how our society has become. I hope we can somehow get the majority of Americans to get off this Left/Right view point on everything so we can actually start solving some of the real problems we have.
Oh....and this does go both ways....so I am not singling Righties out in this case. I know plenty of lefties, including myself sometime, that have a hard time coming to the middle.
The nice thing is.....we can all come together and fight for cycling......so it does work.....:)

Done and Done. No sweat off my bike. Easy one minute of my time that will hopefully help in the end.
Might as well annoy them with an email or fax too! http://www.nrdcaction.org/action/index.asp?step=2&item=52763

Here's an automated response I received from Senator Coleman's office:
http://gmail.google.com/gmail/images/star_off_sm_2.gif Opinion@coleman.senate.gov to me
More options May 16 (17 hours ago) Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to contact me via
e-mail. Because of the volume and range of e-mails I receive, it can takesome time to send a response that specifically addresses the subject raised in your message. I do, however, want to let you know immediately
that your message has been received and that a more detailed response will be forthcoming. In the meantime, I hope you will visit my website at
http://coleman.senate.gov (http://coleman.senate.gov/), to monitor the work I am doing in the Senate.
Sincerely,
Norm Coleman

When I used to lobby on the Hill a response was good, even if automated, at least they are thinking far enough ahead.

I don't see anything about it in the vote tallies yet so maybe they didn't get to it yesterday. The Sessions amendment is number 646 and if it gets voted on, the results should eventually show up here:

Done!
Here is a general letter to send to your senator:
I urge you to reject the Sessions amendment that would cut funds for clean air, transit and trails currently included in the comprehensive transportation bill (S. 732).
The Sessions amendment would gut the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program, which helps states and local governments reduce air pollution as mandated by the Clean Air Act. It also would cut funding for transit projects which would give Americans more transportation choices and reduce our transportation system's dependence on oil.
In addition, the amendment would cut the transportation enhancements program, which funds projects that give Americans the chance to enjoy the great outdoors on their bikes and feet, as well as the Transportation and Community and Systems Preservation Program, which provides funding for smart growth activities.
I'm counting on you to protect clean air, transit and trails funding in the transportation bill and vote against the short-sighted, environmentally harmful Sessions amendment.

Looks like that's the one. Not only was it defeated, it looks like Sessions got spanked. 84 voted against his amendment and 16 voted in favor of it. I suspect plenty of Senators heard from their constituents on this one. Nice going!

That was rather fun. I'm sure they look at the amount of e-mail/calls/faxes they get and extrapolate out from there to determine the "public's opinion". So every person on this list that sent something I'm sure had a big effect.
And my wife was near by when I was checking my e-mail and it was fun to say "Oh good, senator Coleman got back to me." ;)
