HI,

I am new to the area, without a car, with a bike... Can anyone tell me how to get to Lebanon Hills from downtown (2nd ave.s.) on a bike? Is this a bikable distance at all ? Thanks!

Get over to West River Parkway and head South. That will turn into Godfrey Parkway. Take that to the round-about and head South paralleling Highway 55. Look for a paved path on the left that takes you down to the river. It is a double track width trail that never seems to end. When you come to an intersection, take a right up the steep hill. When you reach the top, take a left across the Mendota bridge. Right after you cross the bridge you will see a trail heading left, just before a slight uphill. Take that for a short distance until you come to a road. Take a right on Highway 13 and follow it until you come to Sibley Memorial Highway. CROSS over that and go to Johnny Cake Ridge Road. Take a right (South). Cross over Cliff Road and Lebanon Hills will be about 1/2 mile down on the right. There is a park sign leading you into the parking lot. Good luck, it is a haul.

You might also want to check out:

for a detailed bike-oriented street map of the twin cities and inner suburbs.
You can shorten the trip by taking the light rail. I've done that to get to the river bottoms and that worked out pretty well. Looks like you can get off the light rail after the airport and take the 494 bike path across the river and save a lot of miles on the road.

Couldn't have mentioned a better idea. Lightrail is the way to go. http://www.observedtrials.net/vb/images/smilie/bigthumb.gif (http://www.observedtrials.net/vb/misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=1&forumid=0#)

I've taken the LRT and the MVTA buses to Eagan before. That's about a perfect way to go. Zip ya down there, get you across the river and within two miles of the trail. =)

The LRT will zip you down to the mall quickly, fo sho, and you do have to take a bus to get across the river as the old bike bridge is shut down :(. Either that, or try fighting traffic on the 65mph Hwy 77 with your bike. :hit:

I say don't bother, Theo is right next to downtown. ;)

Have fun either way.
