Hey Kurt,
I started the new line for the DH course, I only raked the leaves off, from where I raked it appears to be a easy to build and maintain trail!!! If I get bored this afternoon I may go out and start moving rocks and such as. Looks to be way better then last years course. Oh, and on my last run I saw tire tracks down in Chester bowl...they appear to be specialized rollers, I would guess some one from ski hut...

OK, here comes a native Duluthian back to do some stompin on the home turf. Can somebody give me the lowdown on Hartley? I would like to ride up Woodland (from UMD area) and enter the easiest/quickest way and not get anyone PO'd at me>

Are trails open?
Signage or obvious ways to figure out i am on right trail
Is it a loop?

Gracias

Hey Buck,

The tire tracks you saw... Unless you know who was riding in Chester, I don't think that you should be making assumptions as to who it was based solely on the brand of tire they were using.

After all, don't YOU ride a Specialized?

Keep up the good work. You have lots to offer the biking community and it's obvious that you have put in your fair share of work building and maintaining trail.

Thanks for the props man!!!...I ride Kenda Blue Grooves, and I say who it may be is b/c I know the hard feelings btw the city and some riders still exsist, and Ski Hut is the only specialized dealer in duluth, you won't see me in CHester...EVER, the signs are very clear since there are more then enough signs this year. It certianly is a shame that the area got closed to bikers, but by riding it we(has in the cyclers in Duluth) are giving them(everyone that shut it down) more ammo. It's all good though soon Spirit will be seeing a few great improvements!!!

Those are just my thoughts, agree, disagree, whatever, the fact is the area is closed...If anyone in the thread ever wants to ride..call me at 507-259-1031. I'd love to finally hook up with some locals after 2 years I've never ridden with any! :)

I come and go starting in spring. I have 3 kids whom my folks like to see on occasion. I've always had bikes in the back of the truck, but never seem to get out...Now, with them teenagers, well they claim they want to ride with me...how would you rate Hartley for novice riders like them?

I would say take it easy and do the big wide trail that goes back to the lake. The loop I usually ride, I wouldn't want to as a beginner I don't think. But Hartely definitly has trails tha that beginners would enjoy...I think Kurt could probably give a better detailed review then myself. My view of trails is usually a little more twisted then most  :D
