What up guys,
Went out and raked off the entire course top to bottom, and started planning out the new stuff today, looks like the new bottom section is going to be nutz and shouldn't be to hard to get going. Another day or two to dry out and it'll be perfect for building/riding on. I won't start till after the IMBA school though. If any locals on here read this and want to work please post up and/or contact me, I want to make sure that people aren't undoing work or working in the wrong area! Look for a trail work day in the near future, I know there is crew of DHers in the Duluth area that I plan on tapping into!!!!

Alex,

I'll set a date in the next two weeks probably(schools starting to get busy with finals coming up though!) and try to get all the Duluth riders up there, and do some work, like armoring and stuff. I think after the complaints I've gotten from a couple riders in Duluth, they should be happy with the changes I've made. I think the course will be quite a bit harder this year, and I'd like to get you guys involved to maintain it after we have finished building it!!!

Alright guys a bunch of news for ya all to chew on...

I will be doing a trail building day on May 7th and if people want to I can do one on the 8th as well. May 7th I plan on being there around 1pm. please bring any tools you have. shovels and rakes are what we really need. We'll meet at the main parking lot in front of the chalet, the plan is to work on one really bad section with some rock work I think, and then start right into the new section which should be a fun build area, with lots of possibilities so now is your chance to get some instant input into the course!

Info is slowly coming together for the DH race. check out www.greenmanfestival.com (http://www.greenmanfestival.com) $50 dollars gets you two days of lift serviced riding at set times through out the friday and saturday.

Post up if you plan on coming!

THanks

What I like is that we have the lifts both days and once I have done the dh course enough I'll go rip up some other lines down the hill! Hopefully new lines with lots of drops and speed!!! Oh yeah, I will be there on the 7th and I'll see if I can grab a couple extra hands too!!

Whoa, hold on there Brad...
This is a pilot trail not a free for all, we have to have well planned trails that MUST be ok'd by the resort and an environmentalist!!! We have to be really careful in the start, there are alot of people against trail development on Spirit Mt. so we HAVE to be careful how we go about it!

see you this weekend.

Whatup dude? Yeah I talked to your bro a couple nights a go. Bring your bikes for sure!!! We ain't going to spend the whole day digging then not ride at all!!! The upper half of the course is in perfect condition to ride, well, maybe a little buffing is necassary but the lower part is where we will be working, and on the extension...you'll like the line I have marked when you see it!!!

I heard Duluth is a mudhole right now :geek:

Any truth in that? I was up North this weekend. You guys don't even have green on the trees yet! I was amazed.

Oh yeah Adam, I won't be able to make it up either. Finals are next week, and I need to catch up with a quickness!

But, I WILL still make the awards....BLING BLING

I am so glad I never got rid of my Fox chest protector. At this rate, I am going to have to hang up the XC racing and start getting more into the downhill scene.

Keep up the good work guys. I plan to do the spring cup, but if you guys do any future work, let me know.

What up guys? report from the field!

Today we got a **** load of the new trail DONE! Only have one more section of around 100yds left one more day to cut that, and a second day to completely buff out the whole new section(s) and we can start looking at the old upper section and re-routing the couple trouble spots of which there is one major one and one minor. It was great we had seven bodies show up which was HUGE for such short time to get things rolling! Thanks to Pete(great eye for lines, and crazy hard worker), Thor(ultimate rock mover! and uber smooth trail tester!), The McConkey brothers(hard working, rocking moving, and laying duo!!!), Jeff Nelson(hard working, dirt moving machine!), and to the guys that showed up a little late but still through a hand in to help! Alex from D-town, Shane from D-town, the two dudes from Sup-town and Brad from Cloquet.

Thanks guys, look forward to working with you more to make Spirit a success, has to be some of the best DH in MN we cut today, and will greatly add to the system there!!!

I'll be up again this next Sunday maybe for some building BUT, I have to play guide with some guys coming up from the cities, they were on the calender 1st so we'll see what happens and I'll be filming a RedBull competition the day before(Sat) so we'll have to see how everything on the schedule pans out!!! Otherwise I'll be back up for Memorial day weekend, and I'll be building on Sat/Sun for sure, probably take Monday off to ride though!!! The trail should be complete through out after those two days of building, we should even have the two re-routes Pete and I scoped out done. Like I said one is a minor re-route that will allow us to carry more speed into the next section and the 2nd is an erosion control nightmare, but Pete found a great solution to that! We'll see what happens, thanks for coming out Alex and great meeting you, I'll try and be more organized next time, we kind ran this one off the cuff!!! hahahaha

Alex, definitely get out there and ride it, it will help wear the tread in, we didn't really pack it, but like out at Steeple we walked on section enough as we worked on them that they didn't need to be packed! Hopefully if people ride on it enough a tread will wear in quickly! I may go out tomorrow for an hour of riding the new section, maybe grab a couple pics to post up.

Hey Buck,

What is mode of transport back up the hill? Is there a rideable trail or hike back up.

Looks like I might have next weekend open to head out of town for some riding and Spirit Mountain sounds like a great place to check out.

Yeah you can ride up one of the access roads back to the top, but if you are on a Big Bike that can even be pretty tough, but it can be done! Otherwise hiking is the only option or if you have enough people it can shuttled. Look for the lifts to be turned on some time in late summer probably!

Shoot me a PM I'll be in D-town next week.

No 100% sure on this yet, and, depending on the weather, but I'm thinking about riding/working one day this coming weekend (14th || 15th). I'll play it by ear as the week goes, and keep checking the weather. I'm planning on getting there early, 8am or so to work for 4 hours on either the upper re-route before the little creek crossing, or maybe on something down in the last section. Then I'd ride after lunch for as long as I can haul myself back up the hill. If anybody else is down, I'll see you out there, if not, no biggie. This is goona be a sweet trail! Spirit has so much good terrain!!!

Buck
05-09-2005, 10:02 AM
Pete,

I'd be totally game to help out and ride on the 15th and I know there is going to be a bunch of other riders in town that day as well!. The 14th is booked solid. We need to really look at the upper re-route...Thor thinks we should keep it, but Spirit lovingly cut a drain to the trail in that section so I don't know if it can be saved...

In light of this, I am now thinking of making it a two day, over night event. I'll proally come up saturday morning and work/ride both days. I'll keep you posted.
