View Full Version : Personal Goals

So I see another thread going around talking about personal goals for this coming year. It's a good topic, so I'll share my goal with you.

My goal is to end the year having gotten all of my non-MORC mountain biking friends to join MORC.

Right now, MORC is at 616 members. It's the highest our membership level has ever been, but in the scheme of how many mountain bikers there are in Minnesota, it's trivial.

If each of us renewed our memberships this year, and got one other person to join MORC, we'd double to 1200 members. That would put us in the same league as the nationally known powerhouses: NEMBA, SORBA, MMBA...

I'm pledging 5 new members this year, how many are -you- going to bring in?

Hmm, good goal, If I can get 5 Freeriders, who in turn get their crews to join I'll be happy, I think it'll be easier once some things come to fruition this summer!

MORC goals would have to be to get eveyrone that comes to trail work to join up! Plus I'll match ya Scott and go for 5 too!

Riding goals.......geeze after a year off, just to get out and ride! Think I maybe got 1500 miles last year, my lowest since 95, especially considering since then ive averaged 7.5k give or take a year. So yeah i need to just get out and ride ride ride ride!

Trailwork goals......i would like to get more people to come to trailwork rather than accomplish trailwork specific goals, those come easy enough, and even easier when you get new faces out there. Its great when you get someone new at trailwork that gets all excited about helping create/repair trail that so many people will enjoy.

Other......put out at least 2 albums by 2006!

Kevin,

Print out an on-line application, fill it out. Sometime in the next 3 weeks, put in 3 hours at a trail work session at Theodore Wirth, get the Dirt Boss to sign the app and send it in. I'll cover you for a 1 year membership.

Wow--setting goals. Hmmm the MORC board said I had to set my goals even higher so here goes:

Finish Murphy Hanrehan by 2008
Finish Salem Hills by July 1
Get started on Camden state park
Get approval for trails in Roseville
Find $187,000 to match the grant we have for the trails at Cuyuna
Begin discussions about Elm Creek
Finish 4 miles of trails at Steeple Chase
Get Trail Source out of debt!!!!!!!
Finish Terrace by 2006
Ride my bike at least 700 miles this year
Ride my moto cross 4 times this summer
Learn how to jump my bike off of a drop
Learn how to do a wheel stand
See my children and grandchildren more often
Make more than 1 trip to the Black Hills
Love my wife for not complaining too much about all the time I spend doing trail advocacy and construction

OK MORC board---are these goals enough of a stretch??

Now that is cool! I was thinking of some sort of student membership deal, but I like this better.

Scott, if it's alright with you I'll one up you and offer to pay for two $20 memberships for the first two people who accomplish the same thing - do 3 or more hours of trailwork at Theo within the next 3 weeks, get a trail boss signature and send it to your attention. New members only - no renewals please. Let me know when you have received the apps and I will send in a check.

If that is too complicated, reply here and direct whoever is interested to send the apps to me. I will get them my mailing address. I will mail in the apps with a check upon receipt. Whatever works.

Whoever is interested in the offer, post up here or e-mail me at flombe@gmail.com and we can get this figured out.

Not to throw a wet blanket on the outbreak of generosity taking place here, but this seems like as good a time as any to announce that MORC is introducing a new Student membership (for riders 18 and under) at the more minimum wage-friendly price of $15.

Actually we've revamped our entire membership structure. Complete details are in the upcoming MORC newsletter, which will be hitting mailboxes and bike shop shelves this weekend. A downloadable application with the new membership levels should be up on the site shortly.

BTW, my first goal is to get my friend who designed the new freaking MORC logo to pony up for a membership. More ambitious goals to follow...

This is a great idea, that we could discuss and implement...it could be a special fund that interested parties contribute to. We'd basically need two efforts: 1. Raise some dollars, and 2. find some willing participants.

Let's figure something out. Count me in on the dollars side.

Scott, brilliant ( and much needed ) idea! Count me in on the Theo challenge.

We always have applications trailside and would be happy to mail them in for anyone who wants to put in three hours and join. :D

Count me in too. I'll sponsor a student willing to put in the designated time at Theo.

Mara or someone "official" can PM me with the person's name, and I'll send the check to MORC on his/her behalf.

It looks like this idea has some legs! I count 5 to 6 memberships available in trade for some trail work at Theo. I bet there are other MORC members out there who can afford to cough up $20 and a stamp to help out with getting Theo ready for the grand opening! I really like this idea of recruiting some much needed help and introducing new members to MORC.

How about contacting the LBS' and letting them know about these sponsored memberships? Sell a new MTB bike and tell the buyer they can earn a MORC membership by turning some dirt. And then tell the buyer about the LBS discount available to MORC members too. Rope 'em!

Maybe put up a link on the home page so one could easily learn what is required?

I saw that MORC (and MOCA?) will have a table at the Freewheel event this weekend. I'd say that is the perfect opportunity to spread the word!

Burke

You're right. It seems to have taken off.

The MORC board is having a discussion about what we're wanting to do with the idea, and if we run with it, how to implement it. This weekend is too quick to promote this concept if we do embrace it. I had intended my sponsoring Kevin to be a one time thing, but it looks like there's more potential there.

I'll post up once we have a course of action determined.

Excellent! I look forward to hearing what the board decides.

Until the official word comes down, my offer stands for anyone interested. I will handle it personally (put my check and your app in envelope and mail). Contact me at flombe@gmail.com and I will get you my mailing address.

Who is in charge of the work at THeo and are there organized work days so that I could help out? I'd do 3 hours no problem, regardless of the challenge(but I would love the membership)

I am in charge of absolutely nothing, but I have a really nice pulaski. Does that count for anything? Trailwork is every Wednesday at five and Sunday at nine. Most Saturdays we have a session at nine, too. We'd love to see you.

Like Chris said, check www.mocatrails.org for the latest updates.

So I see another thread going around talking about personal goals for this coming year

my goal this year is to get out on my SS and keep rolling for 100 miles. - it's going to be a full afternoon (morning, afternoon, evening) but it seems like a good time.

I was considering bringing my ss roadbike out to the ironman 100, but have opted instead to stay home as my floors are refinished.

My goals for this year (making up the specific numbers as I go):

Ride at least 5 races at 3 different courses (So far I've got plans for races at buck and Leb, need one more (this will be my first year racing)).

Ride 120 miles per week on average.

Ride every open trail in the metro area.

Convert at least 2 people into trail-respecting mountain bikers ( this one I'm almost done with already).

Do regular trailwork at Leb ( I was somewhat regular last year).

Do trail work as possible on at least 3 other trails.

Either work or ride at the 24 Hours at Afton (I worked last year).

Run at least one 5k race (as in running).

Commute to and from school this fall (~10 miles each way) at least 3 days / week.

That's about it - mostly trying to kick my own A$$ into shape.
