Did a couple laps on Memorial for the first dirt (not counting gravel) riding of the season. Observations (other than my lack of conditioning):

- The trail is tacky, but very rideable. If it doesn't rain on Friday night/Saturday morning it'll be perfect for the weekend. BUT, it won't take much moisture at this time to make the trails (especially the stuff on the north side) a muddy mess. So please watch the weather.

- The gates still are closed, so be prepared to get a little warmup in getting to the trailhead.

- There are a couple of trees down across the trail. Too big for dragging, and I have no chainsaw. They don't come out of nowhere though, so don't pose any danger.

- It seems the rocks and stuff in Lay Down Sally??? are bigger than last year. FUN FUN FUN (though I almost killed myself)

Which one is Lay down Sally?

The name was a guess (and also... I'm a wuss... so it's not like the rocks are huge boulders and stuff, just seemed a lot more in the way than last year...:geek:). I'm horrible at describing where trails are. To my knowledge Laydown Sally is the singletrack on the south side of the bluff. You'll hit the most interesting sections of the trail whether you head down to the Quarry or not.

An out of date map is here (http://www.morcmtb.org/trailreviews/south/images/memorial/Memorial.pdf) (quarry sections are not on the map, along with most anything else built within the last few years).

The girlfriend and I rode all of Memorial saturday. For the most part it is in decent shape. The teeter still needs to be rebuilt and there is a good amount of washout throughout the trails. I didnt see any new signage yet, but there is a new section that was just cut, which holds some potential. They retired an old section and rerouted onto the new section. Careful though, because it is still riddled with little tree stumps which could do some tire damage. Overall it was a good, solid ride! (As always.)

I was thinking about making my first Memorial run of the year on Sun. Does anyone know how the trail is looking? :etard:

Bryan, check back in tomorrow evening, I'll have an update. Heading out to try and make a dent in finishing up the new section of trail that Porter mentioned in his last post. We got a lot of rain yesterday so my gut says it's 50-50 at best that it will be rideable without rutting up the place.

It's looking very greasy. If it stays dry, and gets a little warmer you might be able to get in a decent ride in the afternoon. No guarantees though.

Its been raining here off and on all day so I would guess it would be crappy down there. The weather cancelled out the time trials and now my Sun. ride isn't going to happen either. I feel like I woke up in Seattle! Thanks for giving me an update on the trail.:etard:

I rode RW on sunday and the trails are in excellent condition. They have done some trimming of the overgrowth so the trails are nice and clean. They have even done some rerouting of trails.....the newest being in the Quarry section. As always....RW was a blast! Definitely ride it if you get the chance.

Well I'm sitting here debating if I can go down and ride the trail today, did it get as wet down there as it did up here?I'm sure it did, but I have to ask.

Mike,

I'm not sure how much it rained where you are at, but it only rained pretty hard for about 20 minutes, and then drizzled for an hour or so. My gut feeling says that it would be pretty tacky almost all the way around (and no worse). The trail was bone dry before yesterday, and it seems to dry off really well so take that for what it is worth.

Well I rode today, and the trail was in great shape, you guys have done an excellent job down there, your hard work is greatly appreciated.:p

The teeter is great, its much bigger than the one at Leb, and the 12 inch or so log that you have to go up to get on it really makes it challenging!

The only problem I encountered was after the ride I was looking forward to some jerk chicken at the Harbor Bar and the door was locked, so I settled for a burger at Randys, which was pretty good also.Oh and the thorns on the path to the wild downhill tore my arm up pretty good, but I knew that was coming from the other posts.:scream:

Thanx again guys, I'd love to ride it with some of the locals sometime.

I used to be a local up until last july and then I entered the real world. My parents are still living in RW so i get down there every so often. I love riding on Memorial. Whenever I ride down there I try to post earlier in the week to let others know.

Next time you're down you gotta skip the Harbor and try Fiesta Mexicana for some killer Mexican food. Great stuff, can't go wrong.

We got up tonight and did some mowing so the trails are in great shape! Shout when you all are down this way so we can pull a group together.

KrisSounds good, I will have to try the Mexican place but I love Jamaican food too much, and I've become friends with a couple guys there.
