I finally got around to sitting down at my computer last night to begin work on a flyer that we can distribute to local shops advertising the film festival. I figure to make up an easy web site that will have more in depth guidelines and instructions on how to get signed up but would like help with suggestions on what stuff should be on the flyer itself.

What I have right now is pretty basic and all is subject to change. Any help on some of the bullit points to be added to this?

Here is what I came up with for starters. Like I said nothing is permanent so design and text suggestions welcome!

Scott,

I like the idea and your initial design.

We will need to provide you with one of the new MORC logos and come up with 3 or 4 bullet points to put on the flyer.

Keep us posted and I'll try and come up with some ideas also.

Thanks for helping with this.

Sounds like a good idea. I'll see if I can get my buddy Andy, who wants to help too, to come with me. Hopefully REI Roseville will let him out an hour early ;o)

My God!!!

How do you mount a GL1 on a helmet and not kill your neck?!?!?

And what is this little Sony HD cam you are talking about? I have been doing helmet work with a Bulletcam system and would like to upgrade to a HD capable system if it does not cost me an arm and a leg plus a strained neck.

Thanks
James

Joshua,

That would be very cool. I'll have to check out your website when I get off work tonight. Hopefully we can get a link off morcmtb.org that we can have details, as they become available, and a link to the forum for discussion.

I'm hopefully gonna finish the flier this weekend and then have it for download on the website. Hopefully some of out members can print it out and bring it to their local shop.

If this thing got big enough we might have to have a judges preview the films and narrow it down but that depends on how many videos get submitted. I'm starting work on mine now that the weather has changed and I'm getting excited to get out and start getting footage.

Good luck. I think you'll have to wait about a decade. The HD camera's still cost a fortune, and they're generally not true "HD" unless it's a broadcast camera, which is huge. At least a shoulder carry, if not tripod only.

Have you seen the new cam I think it is like the HDX that uses the P2 cards??? That would be sweet! to bad it cost an arm and a leg...I think this year at NAB they were supposed to be releasing some nice HD cameras that were hand held, but HD is an ever evolving thing anyways, in other words the camera you have now was HD like 4 yrs ago...

i got bussy working on my house and drinking

GL -1 as a helmet cam you buy a hemlet cam put the camera in your back pack and run the wires up to the CCD lense on your helmet

the sony HD cam i was talking about

HVR-Z1U Camcorder
it is not "true" HD but even the HD you see on tv with your brand new Plasma is not True HD it is an Mpeg version of HD that will stream over a network and on to your tv and that is the same idea behind the HVR-Z1U
likee i said they use it as a second cam for alot of Tv shows

and my feelings are if i can shoot a Polaris ad on my GL and nobody notices when it is playing on tv then i can shoot HD using that cam and nobody will notice i know i can not tell the differance when i am watch stuff shot on the HVR-Z1U i am not sure about the
HDR-FX1 this is the consumer bases HD cam and is a couple grand less

well back to panting my house

True HD IS being broadcast, you just need an HD UHF antenna. Satellite and cable companies compress the snot out of the video to save bandwidth. Cable companies are the worst about it, the "third" satellite company is best for HD. I always forget the name, but it's not Dish Network or DirectTV.

And it's not really MPEG, it's just plain video compression.

As far as HD cameras go, remember that with any digital camera, the optics are the most crucial part of it. You can have a great digital camera, with a cheap lens (or worse, non-detachable) to lower the price, and it will still suck. I can tell you that a broadcast quality HD lens (or any broadcast quality lens) can cost $250,000.

this is from a text book from my film school

in 1994 The Moving Pictures Experts Group defined a standard for the digital coding and handling of moving pictures and audio. Improving on an earlier standard, (MPEG-1, ISO/IEC-11172), MPEG-2 (ISO/IEC 13818) was designed to be flexible, expandable, scalable and have a higher quality suitable for the broadcast industry. The original design of MPEG-2 was founded upon the requirements of normal video, but it soon expanded to include increased requirements of HD. Although MPEG-3 was being developed for HD, it was realized that MPEG-2 could be modified to include HD

MPEG-2 also defines a data transport stream structure that can be used to distribute the encoded image data. SMPTE 310M is a transport stream based on MPEG-2 that is used for the ATSC 19.4 Mbps HDTV standard. The DVB transport protocol used for satellite, cable and European digital video transmission is also based upon the MPEG-2 transport stream structure.

. At a data rate of 19.4 Mbps (2.425 MBs) for ATSC-compliant HDTV MPEG-2 files, it takes 145.5 Mb a minute and 8.73 GB per hour to store. As the bit rates rise, the storage requirements for HD grow quickly. Compressed but high-quality HD can have 64 Mbps to 120 Mbps

so unless you have a magical tv that has a magical signal that can stream 64 to 120Mbps you would still not be play uncompressed HD

as far as the new polaris ad it is being shot on HD with the lense i am renting and will be sent out at 19.4 Mbps
