Just got back from a week out in Utah and western CO. We hit up a lot of Moab. (Porc Rim, Amasa Back, Gemini Bridges, Sovereign Singletrack, Slickrock and a quick stop in Fruita for a couple laps on Mary's Loop) The conditions were excellent out there. A little chilly at night but great temps for ridin' during the day. (60s and low 70s). WISH I WAS STILL THERE!

Hey how was Amasa Back doing? I heard that a contractor came and backfilled alot of the ledges and steps and stuff, in order to allow maintainance trucks to go up to access a private pipe line.

Have you ridden it before (the work happened) and how does it compare now? I am headed out there over Memorial day weekend and want to know if I should skip it or not. It used to be so fun coming down with all those ledges.....

Thanks,
Pete

That Civic needed a few more bikes on it

they filled in that hellish ledge section on the slight downhill before the ascent right before the pipeline. that was the only part that seemed different. either way it is always a great ride.

I heading out there in a couple weeks, and we need to make a choice between Amasa Back and the Sovereign Singletrack. I've ridden Amasa Back many times and I like it, but I haven't ridden Sovereign yet.

Which one should I do?

That doesn't sound near as bad as what people were making it out to be on MTBR. Amasa is a great ride. Thanks for sharing!

Sovereign was a fun trail, except for the excessive winds we had that day. There are a few good climbs and plenty of technical stuff. For the most part you can ride it fast. They call it Desert Singletrack and that is exactly what it is. It was a good ride. If you ride it, I recommend riding it both directions to get the real feel. Have a great trip!

My vote would be for Soverign - especially since you have done Amasa so many times. As mentioned by rideyerbike, do Soverign as an out and back on the singletrack, starting on the south end - not as a loop that inlcudes the sandy roads and highway.

So was Sovereign pretty open, or is it collecting a lot of riders?

There were 6 of us and we ran into maybe a dozen others on Sovereign, but as I mentioned earlier...it was an extremely windy day so there may have been many people who opted for a more protected ride. It was definitely worth riding though, wind or not.
