I am gonna start a monday evening ride. It's for both BMXers and/or Freeriders. Rides will start at 5:30 PM at the Hyatt in Downtown Minneapolis. The second meeting point for late arrivers will be at the new Fed Reserve building at 6:30 PM. That way some of us who can, can start riding early.

This ride has no affiliation with any organization or shop...so feel free to go no matter who you are.

First ride is 4/4/2005.

Post on my forums to confirm if you are gonna go. That is where I will keep these rides posted.

Very lonely. I didn't plan it far enough in advance. But I was there having fun and even getting kicked out by security......sheeeesh.

Is the Sunday night ride still happening in the downtown/UofM area...?

HOLY ****!!! Colin with the Balfa is that you??? What's happenin man? As far as I know the sunday night rides haven't happened for about a year...want to get them started again??? With the e-mail list it'd be fairly easy to organize...with 45 people on the list, should be easy to get going again!

Uh, I was on the Sunday rides (U of M and Downtown, MPLS) a bunch last summer. Two groups did them. One came from Penn and one came from Erik's. The Penn Cycles guys had a mix of BMXers and Freeriders and Erik's had all freeriders....some who even wore full face downhill helmets. A little overkill....but what can I say?

Yep that's me.

I went out on a demo hardtail the other day, I couldn't imagine pushing the Balfa around downtown right now. I still have mud spike tires on from the snow dh race... so it was definately out of the question.

I'd like to get the Sunday ride going again. I may have to wait a few weeks until winter hockey league is over, we play on Sun. nights.

I'll send out an email soon...

Cheers!

I've never ridden here, so I don't know or really care. I live near the St.Paul U, if that matters. :)

In the past it has been downtown then slowly moving towards East bank campus. Riders usually meet at the Loring Greenway/MCTC area @ 6pm-ish, it's hard to miss.

Yep....that's where I would meet up. So, we should just plan on that then. I still want to do my Monday evening rides if anyone is interested. I know a couple of people that can ride Monday nights.

Awesome Colin,
Definitely use the e-mail list, that is what it is for!!! Get things rollin' again in the cites!

Shad, I only say used to, b/c there was a time when the group ride were HUGE, like 40-50 guys.

Hopefully my hand will get a little better so I can do more then just ride trails!

Yeah, in the 90's when I was working at TC BMX we had huge groups (all BMXers) sometimes. I don't know about 50, but we certainly had 25 or so sometimes. I didn't like the huge groups. We created too much attention and a lot of riders would crash into eachother. It's fun sometimes, but a group of 5-15 riders is the best size I think.

I don't mind going by myself even. I can take my time and play around a bit more with ideas. One place I went.....I got kicked out before I even started riding....LOL. The guy saw me and came up and said....you can't do tricks here. I guess my knee pads and pegs gave me away.....

Is there a parking lot there? I'll need directions.

Shad, I'm new to the stunt riding stuff. Maybe you can tell me what I'm doing wrong when I attempt to manual.

What sort of stuff do you guys bring? armor? camelback? bike lock?
Would DH tires suck? I have some 2.5 Wierwolves otherwise.

Thanks, Dan:)

Ride and wear what you are comfortable in. I ride my 50+ DH bike for everything. plus shin pads and brain bucket. Some wear no armor or helmets, all up to man!

I like to park in the Uptown area near The Wedge and then I ride Lyndale in. Plenty of free parking there. There is parking near Loring park, but sometimes it's hard to find places in the summer.

Read the manual stuff in the Riding Tips section and ask me when we ride for pointers.

I bring tools for whichever bike I am riding. Depending on my mood...I will ride either my BMX bike or Freeride bike, which is a hardtail. A pump, spare tubes and some tools to do minor fixes if needed are a good idea. I leave that stuff in my car and if I have a problem....it's not too far to walk and fix it.

I usually only wear shin and knee pads. Some people like to wear helmets. I think a skater style helmet works best. A downhill fullface is a little overkill in my opinion, but I have seen guys wear those. I guess if you go really big, like Buck does, you might want a full face. Otherwise, and half shell skater thing or no helmet at all (like me) will do the trick.

As far as tires go. I have the Maxxis Holy Rollers which are more of a street/dirt tire combined. They are 2.4's and are perfect for Urban Assult missions. A serious downhill tire might be slower to ride and if you plan to do wall rides and such, might slide out. But if it's what you have.....who cares....ride em.

once I get my new BMX built I'll be joining you guys I think, a year or two ago I was begging for a forum like this but never found it, so i'd just go out by myself.

edit: also, I have some cool and cheap stuff for sale in the classefied section, you should check it out!
