View Full Version : It's wrong to ride a freeride bike in Minnesota

I was just looking at the May 2005 issue of Bike and saw a letter from Minnesota. The guy said he doesn't hate all mountain bikes, or guys that think they need 5" of travel. Then he says "But I know they're wrong",WTF? I ride a freeride bike because I can. I have nothing to prove, I don't need to be the first one up the hill. Is it so wrong that I don't care? Sorry if I've offended any weight weenies. BTW this guy rides a SS. I thought the idea of riding a single speed was "because it's hard". That's why I ride. I get a better workout climbing with my heavy bike and I have more fun going down! Anyone else read this? Maybe I'm overreacting.

I read it, and I think you are overreacting. I think the point the guy was trying to make was that the magazine shows freeride stuff all the time and that they should not forget about the majority of riders who don't ride mountains nor ride big hit bikes. Remember the little people that support the sport too!

Yeah...I always see this footage out west or somewhere in the mountains. It's like....hey...we have a scene here (and many other places in the US) and it's a pretty good one. You don't need huge mountains to freeride!

This was how BMX used to be. All the magazines only covered the west coast. Then in the early 90's....all these really good riders started showing up from the East Coast and Midwest. Many of them from here and Wisconsin even. They started going to the West Coast contests and beating all the magazine guys......it was awsome to see. Now I see a repeat of that with the whole freeride coverage. It's like....don't these magazine guys know how to travel to different places? Sure, they go like 3 or 4 places, but come on!

Yeah, well......no biggie. We have fun here and that's all that matters to me. We are developing a nice tight group of good riders and we enjoy eachothers company.....that's all that matters. I also give thanks to MORC for their support of freeriding.

...get over yourself(ves). Are you "core" or too cool for school? WTF cares? Ride your bike. Have fun. Have a brewski.

I'm not sure what that means. If you race the car in your pic, I think my buddy Jerry took the photo?

Sorry missed the reference. But, well done.

I'm committed to the race tomorrow, but thanks for the word. You guys will have a blast, Winona is a pretty cool place.

I was just got back Mexico and havea few surfing pics. Nothing with tubes; just small two-four footers, but pretty fun for a Midwest guy.
