Very sad news coming out of whistler...a Resort that helped define our sport on a global scale is falling victim to insurance rates...no more air?!?!?!

That is a damn shame. I think that decision is bogus and discriminative towards biking in general. How can Insurance companies insure a ski resort and not a bike park? Both of these sports can be hazzardous. You can get air while skiing and that is okay. But to get air on a bike is not okay! I don't get what our world is coming to. Sorry for the rant.

Yeah....insurance. Sheeeeesh......would have thought the whole skatepark thing would have been applied. This used to be a problem but now skateparks found a way....don't remember how....but I think there is special insurance for it. I know they finally realized the risks for skateparks are not that high. It was mostly because it was a newer thing and appeared to be more dangerous. But after many years.....they realized other sports tend to have a higher injury rate. Sports like baseball, football, soccer, tennis.....and so on. I don't know the injury rate for downhill and freeriding, but I am sure that since it looks really dangerous......insurance companies are freaking out. Silly if you ask me......but since when did insurance companies seem to be fair. And no.....it's not frivolous law suits that are making insurance companies raise rates. That's less than 1% of thier raise in costs.....so don't even go there.

Corporate greed man...corporate greed. A upcoming and growing sport/recreation: Mountain Biking. It boils down to the numbers, go back 5 years and I'll bet you the number of mountain bikers has quadrupled, I know cause I grew up in the Pocono Mountains and it now is the Mtn Biking Capital of the East Coast. Places I used to hike are now overrun with New Yorkers/Jersyites on Mtn Bikes. Companies see this growth spurt and want in. My 2 cents, not that anyone asked.
