I really like that drop. It's got a nice downside to it. Sweet sequence. I want to buy a digital camera that does sequence shots like that. This almost looks like it's from a video. Is it?

You don't need a helmet for that....it's all grass.....:)

Sage advice from a guy who doesn't always wear a helmet. Think about it...

Bah,

I could do that shot with Photoshop!!!!

Just kidding, nice sequence. Did you have to do any type of modifications to get up on that Overhang? I can't tell from the photos.

Yo-

The drop is in Mankato. It's kind of sketchy though, because I got kicked out fast, and they watch out for us now.

I piled a few rocks up to help get on to the ledge, but it didn't really help much.

If anyone wants to come down and ride, hit me up. Dirt jumps are in the very near future as well, and I live in a college town with a lot of hot ladies, and good beer!

The pictures were taken from a video.

There is a drop I know of that some BMX buddies and I thought about doing but chickened out. But with these big bikes and suspension.....I bet one of you would love to do it. It's been a long time since I have seen it....so I better go check and see if it's still hitable. If so.....it's in St. Louis Park and I would certainly invite someone and a film crew to check it out. I will post back later after I check it out.

Let me know if you do this, I would like to see (and video) that. I would like to come out with you guys sometime, just to practice my video (and photo) skills, or do you have to be a freerider to even show up.

If you not part of the clan.....don't bother. Us freeriders are a bunch of stuck up punks who don't want any outsiders!!!!

NOT!

That's the roadies if I remember correctly........:)

We are cool with anyone who wants to hang.

I would like to give my camera's "burst mode" a try. That might be a good place. Keep us informed.

Did I mention that I can shoot and edit professional quality video and DVD movies at my work. If you guys can get a pile of guys together, we could assemble a pretty decent DVD of tricks, drops, and what have you. Might even be able to sell it to MORC Members say for 5 bucks. To promote the organization. Only problem is... we couldn't promote the organization by doing anything illegal.

Uh....yeah....jumping off of some schools roof is probably not MORC legal.......:)

But we could still do the video.

Hope you're planning on a submission for the film fest at the MORC annual meeting and party at the end of the summer!

Sure, If I can get some guys together this summer to show off I could put something really cool and appropriate for the shindig. I would like to have it happen at Lebanon since that is really close to my house. I would also like to get Buck and his downhill boys in there as well. Maybe some trail repair clips and fun MORC moments as well.

hahaha, damn I see how it is, once it gets popular every one wants in eh??? hahaha awesome I like to see all the new interest from people! Especially people with camera gear, the more free promo we can get the better! I should finally be ordering some top of the line camera gear by Friday, then it is time to shoot everything from XC to DH.
This years video if I end up having the time should be nutz, I already have some good shoot locations lined up, many of them with Beau in Kato which has an awesome Street scene and coming soon some crazy ass DJs as well, if all goes well they'll make Monkey Village look small...

At least one pack will have a line of big stuff. The plans are to have really big dirt landings, wth movable wooden launch ramps. It cuts down on maitainance. It should be huge though. Once we get it all built we are going to have a GTG with brew and babes. Plenty of space to camp out and too.

Keep in mind also, BMX jumps are a lot different than MTB stuff IMO. We have bigger wheels, so it's a little easier IMO. All these jumps will be built for big wheels and long wheelbases.

It's really nice too. The area where we are building starts from a road, and drops into the ditch, and the entire field is on a downslope, so speed is not a problem!

Here's a couple of pictures of what they were last year. No lip though. Pat has never really built jumps, but he did OK. They are low and long.

EDIT- Our mission is to have small stuff too. We want everyone to be able to progress into the bigger stuff. The "citizen" set will be a line of table tops.

Hell yeah Beau I can't wait to ride!!!! except I found out today that I have to have more surgery on the hand this summer...But atleast I can record all the action if I can't ride! (in the best Napolean voice) yessssssssssssss You guys should be close to no snow down there, and with the warm temps and rain we got comin' it'll be thawed out and dry in no time!

This is an important part of any trails I think. Monkey Village does not have smaller warm up or learning jumps and it makes it hard to ride there because of it. So, I am glad you are doing this. Tables are nice because you are not afraid to learn stuff on them. If you don't land it or land short....it's no so bad on a table top.

As far as lips and launchs and BMX vs MTB.....there isn't much difference. The difference is what you want the jump to do. If you are lofting for distance, then you want a ramp without much of a lip (or kicker) to it and it can be fairly mellow. If you want big air and not so much distance, good for tricks, you want a big lip (or transition) to your launch ramp. There really is only a few inches difference between the wheelbase of a BMX bike and a freeride MTB, jumps might be a little different...not much, but if you build them for a bigger bike.....I am sure a BMX bike would be plenty happy on it.....so build for the bigger bikes of course.

Buck- It's been really warm here, and we had a raging thunder storm last night, so pretty much all the snow is gone.

Shad- Most of the lips will be pretty mellow, because not to many people have been trying tricks. But I will have one line with steeper stuff to boost riders higher up for tricks.

I have ridden BMX trails on my MTB, and they usually like to build them really tight, which is fine, but but I'd like to have a little bit longer distance from one to another.

The jumps in the pics are WAY to spaced out. Like I said, Pat never really built jumps before. We could fit one more set between each of them.

Yeah I've been watchin the weather down there. I bet in a week or less it'll be thawed out, then give it a couple days to dry out and you guys should be golden. Ever seen pictures of John Cowans backyard??? he's got the idea down perfect, super wide landing with like 4-5 jumps all to one, then he mixes wood ramps with dirt, super cool, I'll try and find some pics.

Edit: I'm to lazy to look hard but watch BITS2, and any of the NWD movies and it is in those.

That's what we plan to do. Really wide landings like 25-35' wide. That way you can transfer from one to another.

Yeah...wide landings make for a lot of fun. It's nice if you like to do 360s too. You don't always land in a perfect line when doing those. I can't do them on my big bike yet....but I wanna learn. It's been awhile since I have tried them on my BMX bike.....but I don't like to do 360s over doubles....so I hope you will have a nice big table to learn on......:)

I just gotta pay off my current bike before i decide if i want to get a freerider in the future. I tried doing some urban on a crappy hardtail and and bent the rims to hell err...

Do you know Pat Winkle?

Yeah I know that little punk! I used to work with him. He's to core for me though:eyeroll: . He doesn't ever ride anything but the park either.

Get a hold of me if you ever want to ride. We welcome everyone! I work up at A1 bike shop right now by campus. Stop in.

I can't believe Mankato stills has a cool riding scene....that's cool. Superior Products used to come from there. I still have a pair of shin pads from them. I wish they were still around.....bummer.

I also used to race the BMX track down there.....is it still there?

Superior Threadworks ruled the planet. The guy that used to own/run/help it still lives here. He's a die hard road racer now. Pretty cool guy too.

The BMX track is still kickin too, but it's in pretty rough shape. They have a new track in the works, but you know how that goes.
