Hey,
I just read over on MTBR that a 380million dollar transportation bill passed...how much will Minnesota get??? Have you heard anything about it??? If they divide it up evenly that is about 7 mil a state...for trail development...that could easily cover the Destination trail...

Don't think your IMBA guys have been asleep on this one. Remember I have said I always try to work 2-3 years ahead of projects before they get on the ground. This holds true on this as well. In the bill is $750,000.00 for the trails project at Cuyuna!! Imagine 50 miles of single track at one location. A place that you could hike, ride, swim, fish, canoe, kayak, camp etc. We are not out of the woods on this yet but when I spoke with Oberstar's office today they were confident the full amount would be funded. Our next job will be to contact our 2 senators and make sure they support keeping the funds in the bill for our project.

We will post contact info on the MORC website so that you can e-mail our senators to support the funding. I don't think giving members the chance to become involved would negate our guidelines for maintaining our non-profit satus. Stay tuned for more info on this project.

ROCK ON TIM!!!!
I read it over on MTBR, where it was said to be 380 million...by a senator from CO or something...but I noticed all the money involved and thought of the Destination trail right away!!! I'll be in Bemidji next year, and will have 2 IMBA classes under the belt, so if you need ready hands I'll be there!!! Or a promotional piece...I'm going to have access to some cool sh!t, audio/video production majors come with cool perks!!!!

THanks for the info!

This is some fantastic news, but Tim's correct, we're not quite there yet. The bill has to get signed into law without the project funding being removed in committee.

That said, Tim pulled off some fantastic behind the scenes-last minute-mayor calling-proposal submitting work. I'll let him elaborate, but it was indeed a truly special effort.

Thanks Tim!!!

I could give the whole story but I don't want anyone to get the impression that I did this work in a vacuum. Many people helped to get the application completed. The day that the money is approved and we have a go ahead I will tell the whole story.

Until then pay attention to the forums. we may need your support in contacting our senators to help ensure the funding stays in the bill.
