Was out on a road ride today. I stopped by Lebanon, expecting, as I always seem to at this time of year, to see a couple of idiots there tearing up the wet trail. I'm happy to report that as of about 2:00 pm there were no signs of any riders. Just riding into the parking lot my skinny tires sunk an inch into the saturated gravel. The trails must have been incredibly soft, but that hasn't stopped some of these people in the past.

Ok so I said that I wouldn't call them out, but now I have too. I was out at Theodore Wirth, walking the trail, when two dingle berrys rolled up. The sad thing is they should have knowen better. After are talk, they went home.
So I won't name, names. But they were riding a 29er "IF" ,and a Trek 9.8 carbon. NOT Beginers!!!
If it's below 32, ride!! Over 32, it better be dry!!!
It's too hard to build trail now to have people respect them. And at Theo we do it by hand..... Im so P&%#@ now...... I need a nother beer....

...I would pray that anyone riding an IF would know good vs. bad. Was it a rigid, geared IF...bearded dude? If so, I've seen him at Leb.
I took the 29er SS from Riverplace to DT St. Paul and back this afternoon. Are roads fun on a SS, not necessarily, but I know that the trails are not ready for action.
I'm all for naming names. It only takes a couple knuckleheads to do serious damage to trails that hundreds use.
Totally selfish.

I bet they are the same riders who rode the mud on the west side of Theo Wirth Pkwy between Glenwood and Hwy 55. Big ugly tracks! If you know them, call them out to help repairs trails this spring.

Right now Theo is a pilot peoject. The project will be evaluated in the fall of "05". We are not done with the trail yet, and we have a Grand opening comming up in june.
I'm bad with names, so I can't help you there. But I did show them the Polisk, so they know who I am.

Just to narrow it down a bit more. I'm one of the people with a 29er and it wasn't me either. I've been packing all day.

Roll em mud and feather them. Then drop them off in the middle of the open area where the tall grass is at wirth and ride away. you know...the place where people hide. Leave them there.

Chris and I rode Uptown, Downtown, and the U on Sunday. The conditions were great. Mostly dry with some wet spots. But the wet spots were not mushy. Lots of single track weaving through stuff on Nicollet and many places to catch some air on.
People, it's easy to stay off the trails this time of year. There is a whole world out there to ride.

Because we have yet to round up some key players for the G/O, I can not yet anounce the date. But I can say it's in early june.
the trail doesn't have much for F/R or stunts. That will come with time , right now we are trying to finish the loop. We have some insloped turns, and the log piles, the concreat bridge.

Thanks for taking note of the trail closed signs. We have had some people riding when it's too warm. Now we have to go out and fix the rut's they have made. This is a new trail, some it hasn't had the time to pack in. The old trail does hold upbetter, but it is still too wet to ride.
I recomend preseason x-training. We at Theo have an excellent training program. It works you lower back, sholders, abbs, leg, arms, and yes, the lungs. And Ladys, Why go to a spa to get mud on you face???? He have some of the best in the city.
Stay tuned of updates on are first of the season x -training meeting.

I think people are talking about 2 different trails here. A lot of the discussion has been about Theo, but this thread is in the Lebanon Hills section. The mention of a parking lot makes me think Gude is talking about Leb.

I'll be out putting up more orange fence at Lebanon... just in case it isn't obvious enough for some. The Galaxie entrance has no sign at the moment, but the trail has snow on it so hopefully people will stay off until I get more fences up.
This is always the time of year where the most damage happens. I'm hoping just keeping the parking lot closed will help us this year vs. years before. I'm tired of sitting in the lot reminding people that 70 degrees does not necessarily mean dry trails... not yet anyway.
Hopefully we can get a notice up on the front page soon too regarding the yearly trail closings. Its important we remind everyone for every trail.

Yeah, but this time of year Lebanon is SO much fun on a motorcross bike! Man, I was out there yesterday just RIPPING it up: sliding powered turns around corners, spraying mud out the back of the tire. I even stopped a couple times, grabbed the front brake and just floored it to see how deep I could get that rear tire! Man, you gotta get your motorcycle out and *SMACK!*
:hit:

Thats funny but actually true. Back in the day - a little over 25 years ago - the development just north of Leb was a big MX riding area. The Kindercare was the top of a big uphill and the fire station is near where there was a long sweeping turn leading into a long set of whoops - Shad's rollers.
The washed out gravel hill that intersected the old Galaxie side of the MTB trail right where it entered the open grass area was the hill climb that led bikes into the Leb trail system and there were many MX bikes that rode on the trail back then. I'm sure it was off limits then too but I never heard of anyone getting chased out of there - it was horse trail then, I think - and the cops never showed up at the main area until shortly before the houses started going in.
