I've got a long weekend coming up in June at a friend's lake place near Black River Falls, WI. In fact, I've got the place to myself and intend to spend every sober moment riding.

So here's my question: I'm definitely going to hit Levis. Sounds like a can't-miss prospect regardless. But The Wisconsin DNR site lists over 30 miles of mountain bike trails in the Black River State Forest. I'm usually a little suspicious of anything a DNR would call a mountain biking trail, but I'm going to be close enough to give it a try.

Has anyone tried these trails? And if so, what's your assesment?

Me and a Buddy rode some of those trails about 4-5 years ago. Think 12 inch singletrack in the middle of a 18 foot wide ski trail through the forest.

I am sure we did not hit everything, but is was not what we were looking for.

Not to sound bad but if you have the place to yourself, I would definitly try and bring along some company to keep you entertained when not riding :etard:

I drive through there on highway 54 all the time on the way to the lake cottage, I haven't seen anything in there but doubletrack ATV and Snowmobile trails.

But hey there's a casino! :)

Hey Charles, post up closer to when your heading down to that cabin. I have a cabin in Menomenie and would join you down at Levis. I to was wondering what other trails are down in that neck of the woods. If you want some trail company let me know and we'll ride at Levis.

Will do. Thanks for the thoughts.

My cadre of mountain biking friends has dwindled over the past few years. Not sure who's going to be up for it. But I'll put out the call closer to the time I go. Right now, it's looking like the weeknd of June 17-19, although I may extend a couple days in either direction.

I might be interested Charles. I'm always up for a trip to Levis.

I've ridden the state forest trails at Black River and would agree with James' assessment. Singletrack it is not. Lots of hills though, and I think most days you ride there and do not see another human. The ATV trails are separate. My wife and I rode our MTB tandem there a number of years ago.
