Is anyone out there thinking of going to the 2005 Single Speed World Championships this year?
Dates are August 20 and 21 in State College, PA. I have friends in the area, Jim Thorpe, and plan on doing some riding there also.
I know many a maniac from Surly, Salsa, Evil and the local messenger crowd will be going, just thought I would ask on here also.
Soooo....?

Driving of course. I have never driven 80 east of Iowa, so it should be an adventure.
Rust Belt here I come.

I thought it was Rust Belt here we are... :D
Seriously though, I wish I could go, but my vacation time for the year is already spoken for.

I'm thinking of going, I have relatives in Pittsburg, so I would be making a family trip out of it.
May dad comes from Northern PA, so I've made the trip east on 80 before, but not since I was 16.

well hey man, I don't quite know my schedule around there yet, but if you are looking for some one to split the gas and such, I might be able to go...if your rack can handle a DH bike of course ;)

The rack can, we just need to find a tray that will :p
Only problem would be can you convert it to single? You might get some really odd looks and a very very hard time from some of the riders if you show up to the SINGLE SPEED world championships on a DH Rig. I don't care but others will really give you a hard time about it.
Keep me posted and I'll amke sure and check and see if there is anything around State College, or along the trip where you can make the most of that rig othere than Ray's indoor in cincinatti ( close but a little out of the way)

...there is some freakin wicked riding to be had in PA. If folks have real interest I'd send an email to Chris at www.speedgoat.com to get the haps on the PA riding scene.
Try tech@speedgoat.com.

That's my real intention for going out there besides the spectacle of seeing a couple of hyper-fit skinny people branded with hot steel.
I've got a painful amount of miles to put on before then if I plan on having any fun out there though.

Sweet, I can convert it to a single speed, just throw some spacers on it, leave one cassette on w/ the RD as the tensioner for when I go through the travel(I've had to rig the bike this way before, it is a shoddy set-up but it works  )....ooo, Rays...mmmmm...wait they won't be open in the summer I don't think.
Funny looks, hahaha I own a DH bike in MN , believe me I get funny looks all the time :D , I'm used to it!!! hahahahaha, if I'm free that weekend I'd definitley be game...
