what kind of camera did you get. I am polishing my pennies so I can get a canon 20d this may. However, I just found out that canon is releasing a new digital rebel xt (350D) which is quite a bit nicer then the 300d and is 8.0mp. So i may be getting that body and spend more on lenses.

I've been looking into DSLR's again lately just to see if anything is approaching affordability, I'm considering trading in my EOS 10D for something (probably only get enough for an SD card).
The whole partial frame thing really annoys me though, I'm a big fan of wide angle and you currently still have to drop bookoo $ to get full frame (EOS 1Ds Mark II for instance).

Check to see what kind of flash sync it has. Really sucks to get a nice camera that you can't use at higher shutter speeds when shooting with flash. I am hoping to dump my Nikon gear (to the sound of 2 G's down the tube ugh) for Canon gear. I have been bummed by Nikon's lack of innovasion lately. Probably will pick back up right after I buy Canon of course :)

I saw an ad for a Nikon (forget which model, probably TOTL) that has WiFi built in, that sounds pretty cool...

Thanks Scott, I looked around briefly for specs comparing the two cameras flash sync and found little. I will spend more time this evening digging in to it. I have been leaning towards spending my money on some nicer lenses at this point. I have my eyes on a EF 17-40mm F/4L lens. What set up are you looking to get?

Unless the wife makes me go to her friends baby's baptism up in the cites, I will be out out atCoffee Mill this weekend to take some pics and just watch some crazyness. I was thinking about running the skiercross they have rocking that day as well. I was out there last thursday when they had there Big Air and saw a lot of people crashing which is always entertaining.

The D2h has that feature but you need to purchase the additional antena. I have the D1h which just doesn't cut it for the stuff I wan't to do these days. When I bought it I wanted to get a job working for a newspaper but that didn't work out so now I need something that will give me larger file sizes.
The Wifi is cool though. You can shoot at a sporting event for example, have the pictues transmitted to a laptop near by and then even if you wanted you could have the laptop run some photoshop actions to edit the photos and then save and then have an FTP program upload them to say a news agency. Tought to lose out on a deadline issue with a system like that.

See now, you spend all that hard earned cash on a sweet lens and what do you get 28mm-66mm, that's hard...

I also have my eye on the 20D with the additional grip. I'd most likely have to rent some lenses and use the profits from some gigs to buy lenses. In the end the 70-200 2.8 and the 17-33 2.8 would be high on my list. I really like using available light at all time so the lower f-stops are a big plus to me but are also super spendy. I prefer Canon glass to Sigma/Tamron/Tokina but would probably fill in the middle with something from them to save money since I tend to shoot wide or tight most often.

If your refering to the 1.6 crop factor on the 300d, 350d and 20d, I find that really frustrating myself.

I haven't payed much attention to digital until recently when I've started to get back into it a bit.
So, I've been reading about the whole RAW thing which makes alot of sense to me coming from film, I've always wondered why digital seems to have less latitude than film, but now I understand that if you don't use raw output the camera is essentially making printing choices for you (instead of just capturing the image).
So anyway, do you shoot in raw?

Yep, that's it. It is really a big sticking point for me dropping the cash on a DSLR, but who knows when full frame will make it down to the masses (if ever).

Depends on what I'm shooting I guess. RAW is nice for when I want the maximum ouput I can get from my camera. When you combine RAW with Adobe Photoshop CS you can also make all the changes to the white balance after the fact. The drawback is that it is more time consuming to shoot it. Takes longer to transfer to the computer, you need to use certain software to open it and you have to convert them to put them on the web, have them printed etc.
Most of the time I shoot in the highest quality jpeg. I can fit more shots onto my cards and most of the time what comes out of my camera is good enough for a lot of the stuff I shoot (most of my for fun shots). I usually just shoot JPEG and convert to TIFF while working on it in photoshop so that I don't have any compression when editing the photo.
Most higher end digital camera can be set to output their photos really flat to leave you more options to edit the photo when you get it on your computer. That's usually what I do so if I want more contrast I can get it without blowing out the highlights etc.

It is a pain and Nikon has decided to continue with that as their standard by producing lenses that are like 10-22 for wide angle. One of the big pluses for Nikona is that they never changed their lens mount so I can use all of my Grandpa's old fixed manual focus lenses on my body. Of course you only get to spot meter though which can be a pain.

I picked up the Canon d30 with battery grip and a 28-80 for 500 shipped. Its only 3.3mp but its large enough to print 8x10 if needed so im confortable with that.

For wide angle and the 1.6/1.3 crop factor ack..I am just gona use my peleng 8mm with eos adapter for about a 12mm equivilent.
I still shoot film with my old ae-1 but its to expensive and with taking photo classes where you have to pay for development it gets way to spendy.
I am selling my ae-1 now actually if anyone is interested.
1983 or so canon ae-1
17mm wide angle. f/3.5
28-80 f/3.9
and canon 50mm f/1.8
for $125 or so.
heres some pics i recently shot with it.
