Just wondering if there is anyone out there who is just starting out in the Mountain Biking sport? I just moved to the area, always loved biking, and just got into it. I don't have a gazillion dollar bike, and don't plan on killing myself just yet out there on the trails this spring. So basically I'm just looking for someone to ride with who I won't be slowing down and who is in my experience category.
Anyone out there.... anyone.... ?

Watch for group rides after trail work at many of the trails this coming season....many of them involve riders of ALL abilities who are just out to have a good time riding together. Your more than welcome to come to anything posted on this site! Glad to have ya aboard.

You found the right place to find them. You might want to repost this same type of post later in the Spring. I think you will get a better response then.
Glad you're here, Dan. If you have studded tires ( or if you're brave ) check out the Salem Hills ride on Saturdays. It's a lot of fun and as mellow as you need it to be. If not, you'll find a lot of people here who like to ride, speed being a non - factor. :)

If your bike is rideable, you might want to consider tomorrow (Sat 2/25) at 1:00 at Salem/Harmon. The group won't be riding very fast, and the trail is all designated as beginner.
Most (but not all) of us will have studded tires, but you can probably get by without them. (Right, Mara?) Last night, 8 of us walked the trail to pack down the snow and check it out.
The trail is only about 3 miles long, so we'll probably do 2 or 3 laps before heading back to the lot to drink James' hot cider concoction.

If your waiting for spring, Kenwood Cyclery rides every monday from the shop, to Theodore Wirth and back. All skill levels are welcome.

I'll be at Salem Hills tomorrow for my first winter ride ever. No studs, just my Maxxis High Roller 2.3's. I'm sure I will be going slow. I can't wait!!:D

I may make it out there too for my first off-road winter biking attempt.
Let's see...
1) First trip out on the new bike I built up from a frame. Lots of things to go wrong.
2) No studs, not even any super fatty tires. Just some 29" Kenda Klaws, they seem pretty beefy and have a decent tread. MIGHT be enough to keep me upright.
3) No flats, so I'll be clipped in as I careen around the trails...
The confidence is palpable. Unfortunately I have some other crap going on in the afternoon and it's a little bit of a trip from the Wing, so it may be a 10 am thing.

Well Dan,
As the official slow person here - I have found no one slower, and also a newbie. One lap at Salem should be a lot fun to help you get your mountain bike ya ya's off. Then we can sit in our warm vehicles and watch the rest of the group as they occassionaly pop up on high ground.
Going on a group ride is a great motivator and the people here a very nice and concerned about you if you drop far behind, and they don't get upset if you are slow. Slow people unite! (Someday we'll be fast and able to return the favor.)

I'm not exactly what you'd call "speedy" either. Welcome! :D

Hey Danny, Everyone…
I'm not exactly new to the sport but I am REALLY out of shape! I'd be up for casual MTB rides. I have never ridden the new technical stuff that's been built lately, so in that sense I am a beginner. Let's ride!
