Any discussion of making trails at Wild Mountian Ski Area?

Just curious.

They have a decent amount of land.

It is pretty active there during the summer - which may or may not be a good thing. Aside from the Apline slide and some water park areas, the hills appear to be unused.

Hey Sucking Wind boy.

Wild Mountain said no way, quit bugging us to me a few years ago. I think they shut down the Blast guys too.

I think it's time to sell your hobby farm, get a job at Ziegler Cat, and move to the south metro. I haven't been happier since I did, except I still don't work.

Wild Mountain......blah...

They got my boycott back in '95 or so. I went there on Halloween to snowboard and it was too warm so only one lame run was open. They gave all of us 1/2 price discount tickets that stated "Good through March...( the following year)" I went back there, an hour long drive, around January that following year thinking I have 2 more months before the 1/2 pass expired. When I got there they told me the company that printed the tickets made an error and it was supposed to be good after March that year. Meaning, you had to wait till Spring to ride the wet crappy snow that might be mostly melted by then. I told them they should honor the 1/2 price pass anyway even if it was a misprint. How am I supposed to know and I just drove an hour to get there. They refused to honor the 1/2 price pass. Then I asked to speak to a manager or someone at a higher level of control. A guy came up to me and explained the misprint and said he would not honor the 1/2 price pass which clear stated it was valid. I asked him who he was and he said he was a partner in ownship of the ski hill. Once I heard that I said, if you don't honor this pass, you lost a customer for good. He told me "Good Bye!".

That's it. I have not been there since and neither have quite a few friends of mine once they heard my story.

My opinion.....Wild Mountain sucks!!!

Yeah you should approach them anyway. Who knows what they might say now. Alot of people told me it would be tough to get things rollin' at spirit...it was work but a lot less then I expected(once ground is broken on the trail I marked then I'll call it a total success). Giver 'er a shot you never know what they might say if you approach them with a plan that sounds good!

I'm all for it and would love to help make it happen. I'm somewhat local to that area and know a few people at Wild that we could approach - you'd need to provide the trail builder(s) and as mentioned above, have a decent plan. Make it a no-brainer for them. Guessing that Spirit or Afton would be good models. Also, Wild is pretty busy; Trollhaugen (across the river in Dresser, WI) may be worth approaching - I think they have more land and need to compete with Wild winter and summer. Got a couple names to call there, too. I work in sales, would gladly assist in "communications" and would love to get in on designing and building trails.

How's that for a first post?:crazy2:

I helped build a downhill coarse at Spirit last summer, along with some Freewheel and QBP folks for the Greenman fest. Festival was a blast, 12 Hr. race on Sat., downhill on Sun, all amidst two stages of pretty much constant music, food, tents, and petchuli oil (Willie Nelson cancelled at the last minute). :hit: Rod Raymond (hope I got his name right) of Fitgers was bike event coordinator extrordinare', and at the close of the weekend made the claim that with enough interest, Spirit would run chairs in the summer and allow more trailwork. He may be a great person to contact to get the ball roling. tom

Hahaha, he didn't do any of the footwork to get Spirit lifts open, I did and am still in the process, this summer I will be making a pilot trail, and am re-designing the DH course. Only a few a minor tweeks and some re-routes!!!

I just saw the thread on Wild Mountain. I have been in contact with Tim Wegner about this subject and also have the support of Gravity Lab here in Taylors Falls. My wife and I are friends with the folks who own WM and I believe they would be open to discussing the prospect anyway. When I approached them 3 years ago their biggest concern was erosion. I feel confident that they would be very open to the idea if we could educate them on how properly built trails work to prevent erosion. They have alot of land up here and all of it is just JUICY for some really sweet trails. Give me some feedback, email me, I feel like this is very real possibility for some killer riding really close to the TC metro.

I'm interested in seeing trails here. It's on my way to the relative and would stop on the way! There is always interest in new trails. Hope this goes through!

A few years back, Trollhaugen was interested in building mountain bike trails. They may be worth contacting.
