I'm in the market for some new tread, but it's been more than 2 years since I've bought any. So, I'm kind of out of date on what's good anymore. Typically ride at places like Hillside. Would love any feedback on what people have out there or would recommend.

Oops, sorry, thinking I was in the "Gear" forum.

Panaracer Fire XC pro 2.1
Panaracer Trailblaster 1.8
Hutchinson Pythons 2.1
Nokian Boazabeena 2.1
Tioga Red Phoenix 2.0 (ust only)
Tioga Factory XC SL 1.8

Panaracers have a med rubber compound
Hutchinsons and Tiogas are soft, Hutch last longer than Tiogas
Nokians are a really hard rubber

Those are what i use, i tend to stick with the Fire XC Pro though for most places. They dig in well and shed well too. Corner like nothing else, cept some of the old Panaracers that they dont make anymore. A lot of a tyre also depends on what pressure you ride em at. I tend to stick with low pressures and i also run tubeless. For non-ust i like a narrow 1.8, run em soft and they still rock the party.

Shad also mentioned the Maxis Larson TT tire a while back (you tried em yet Shad or anyone), I will be trying those out this coming year, they look like a great tread that would work well in a lot of different areas.

Yeah, I keep a pair of Panaracer Smokes around just for nostalgia. They even make them anymore?

Aaaa, I would take a peak at Kenda. I run their DH tires with the sticky compound, mmm, unbelievable tire, corners well, lighter then the Gazzis I was runnin', good tread life!!! Can't go wrong with maxxis either!

Wow i forgot about the Smokes! I used to run the Mach SS/SK combo back in the Slickrock days, wish they still made em, but they were heavy.

I also like the Panaracer Fire line, the 2.1 XC, 2.3 DH, & 2.4 FR all have basically the same feel, and are pretty durable.

I just got some 2.5 Kenda Blue Grooves from my new bike, haven't seen any action yet, though everything I have heard about them is good. They run a little small though, mine are actually 2.3ish, so I'd recommend going up one size from your usual if you buy Kenda. Not sure if it is just my model or if they are all like that.

I have a brand new set of nano raptors if anyone wants to buy them. I won them and they won't fit on my 29'er. I'll be at the chilly race this weekend. (last race)
