So I go into my Physical Therapy today right, and the lady says, "Adam only 2 more weeks of the brace then 5 weeks of light activity and we are done!" I was all smilin' thinkin hell yeah I'll be skiing by the end of Feb.!!! :D Then by the end of the session she is says I have too much scar tissue in my hand and I am a candidate for scar tissue removal which entails MORE suregery for possibly NO gain...She then says I'm not your surgeon but they are going to probably do more surgery on you hand. I was like what The !*@#!!!!! nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooo...:hit:

I feel your pain there. You think things are going great and they tell you something like that, it just knocks you down.

I am guessing they want to go in to remove scar tissure to increase ROM. I waited a little long on getting to therarpy on my finger for Physical Therapy and they have told me I might not get all of my ROM back, whatever its just a finger.

Maybe will have a late spring and you will still be able to get some skiing in! But then it would be longer to get on the bike, what a conundrum (sp?).

Yeah, I'm just kinda pissed off. ...You broke yours right??? I think mine might be worse cuz I totalled so much stuff...I can't bend the top half of my finger and there is noticeable ball of scar tissue in my palm, that'll be tender holdin' on the bars... I already won't be able to ride for at least 7 more weeks, but if I get surgery again it'll put that out further, I can ski and just not use poles. once the brace is off...aaaaaa, this sucks...:cryin: ...I should just cut the dang thing off!!! :eyeroll:

Hang in there Buck. It'll turn out. I know weeks seem like years right now for you, but pretty soon you'll be fixed up right and you'll look on that time realize it was nothing.

I had a major set back during rehab for my <u>second</u> ACL reconstruction. Tore the patella tendon in my good leg during a workout, so then I was gimpy on both legs!! I remember how devistating it was to be progressing so well and looking forward to being recovered for a summer of riding, and then regressing to a state where I was worse than when I started.....dark days....

I know it seems like a lot of time now, but in a year or two, it'll seem like a blip on the radar. (2 blips for me) Hang it there G.

Adam, Bummer! However, I've heard that sometimes they can remove scar tissue with therapy.

I have a friend that lives in Salt Lake City. He's a very good DH skier (and a decent biker).

Salt Lake has been getting major dumps of snowfall this year. So, while painting his kitchen, my friend falls off of the ladder and breaks his back. Fortunatly, he's not paralyzed. However, he's spending the next 2 months in a back brace in order to avoid back surgery. No skiing this year.

Like yourself, my friend skis only the nasty XX stuff. It really sucks to be out of commission for something that you "didn't deserve".

As Bob mentioned they may be able to remove the tissue in therapy using an ultrasound machine. It all depends on how thick the tissue is, where it's located, if your insurance covers the procedure, etc. You may want to ask about it before they cut you open again.

Anyway hang in there Buck. I broke my wrist racing at Afton ten years ago and it kinda blew up my summer then, but ain't nothing now. Then there was the posterior shouldar dislocation playing football a few years ago in the fall. (No boarding that year until March.)

Just make sure to have a good story for the scars for those not in the know :)

wow! Tha sucks...What is it like riding with no pinky??? The docs told me I was lucky my finger didn't die cuz I cut an artery. But they did tell me that your pinky and ring finger are over like 70% of your grip.

Buck, hang tough. In the grand scheme of life, you're only out for a small fraction. Plus you seem to be the type who can bounce back from anything short of amputation. Kurt, you deserve extreme credit for not letting a missing digit get in your way. A lot of people might just roll over and call an active life over after something like that. Next time I go OTB, I'll pick myself up and say "WWAD?" or "WWKD?" and hop back on. You guys get the Ironman award for the day.

LOL, thanks, As wussy as something like this is, I realize how much it would suck to be armless, handless, fingerless, life is tough, I honestly don't think I could live alone since my whole right arm is useless right now...I mean sh!t they even gave me scribes at school cuz I'm not supposed to use my hand at all, not even to write!!!! I'll just come back stronger then when I left, I'm so out of shape now, I'll be starting from scratch!!! then it's time to throw down... ...big things are a brewin' and I don't want to miss out!

I can relate to doctors and their doomsayer like attitudes. When I find a doctors like that I drop them fast. They are not listening and their head isn't in the mindset to win.

Years ago I tore the tendons off a finger tip (hammer finger.) The doctor told me I would not longer be able to play guitar. At the time I worked at an exclusive golf course, and one of the members, an orthopedist, saw my hand and asked what happened. I told him what happened and how frustrated I was with my prognosis. He explained the mindset of many medical professionals and taught me exercises to keep the nerves alive and functioning and how to strengthen the tendons. I now play guitar just as badly as I did then. It was a lot of work, but my doctor didn't even give me the option. If I would have listened to him, I wouldn't be playing guitar.

Now, I'm off to the hand surgeon on Monday to see if they can repair nerve damage in the same hand. Right now I'm playing guitar with no feeling in two fingers. That will be the test. If they tell me I won't be able to, on to the next doctor.

Good luck, and find a doctor that will take the time to explain ever aspect of how your hand works and what your injury has done to impede its proper function. Then have the doctor explain how you can regain the most function.

Rant over.:crazy2:

I think i kinda know what you mean, I broke my leg once pretty bad. I had a full leg cast for a month and a half. I had to use a wheel chair to get around. Then I got a smaller cast and used crutches for 2 months. I went back to the doctor and he said I would need the small cast for another 2 weeks. After 2 weeks I went back and they said I'll need it for 3 more weeks!!I went back after the 3 weeks and I had to wear this plastic thing on my leg for 1 week then I was free! Also if anyone has broken anything that they use a lot it hurts a lot after your done with crutches and you start using whatever you broke again.
