I went on a ride tonight with my new face mask and booties. The mask sends my breath right onto my glasses and fogs them up. I can ride without them, but I see much better with them. Does anyone wear glasses when riding in the cold? If so, how do you keep them from fogging up?

I loved my ride. It was 13 degrees and with the clothes I have, that was about perfect. I was nice and cozy warm all the way from Franklin near the Wedge to Edina near Southdale. Nice long ride and with my lights, cars gave me plenty of room. Fun fun. I think I am going to ride more in the winter. I used to do it all the time and I kind of miss it.

Yeah, I have glasses.. I have a stretchy mask, I pull it down to cover my chin so it doesn't fog my specs..

I've thought about this one alot. One solution could be to get prescription goggles(UVEX, about $100), another is contacts if you need the correction.

cut a t-shirt sleeve off, pull it down over you face so it hangs over your nose, that is what I do then I put on some scott OTG and off I go!

L:ike Mike said you have to keep the mask on your chin I wear glasses too and have to do the same thing. Basically you put it up until it they fog then you pull it down until you are too cold then you put it up until they fog then you pull it down until you are too cold..............

I've been wearing ski goggles over my glasses - works great.

The mask I have is the fancy neoprine one that has a nose built into it and a vent for the mouth. But some breathe escapes out of the top and onto my glass, or into my ski goggles.....which I already tried.

I do want some sport glasses and those might do the trick, but I probably won't get those for awhile, so I was just wondering if there was a good solution. Is there some antifog stuff you can put on them? Anyone every try that?

Sure,

Go to any local dive store and they should have a number of different anti-fog products. Granted I just spit into my goggles and that seemed to work fine.

worth a shot.

I find waiting until the weather warms up works wonders for the whole glasses fogging up problem ... ;)

Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. You may need to open up your mask in the area around your mouth so is has less restriction. It also helps if you 'blow' the air out, almost like whistling. If you really want to fix it, just duct tape the top of your mask to your face for a nice air tight seal :crazy2:.

I know of a guy that rides with a snorkel. He breathes out through the snorkel to get the hot air out and around his head. I think this might be a bit extreme.

If the trail is that damp, he shouldn't be riding.

There's a product called "cat crap" (seriously) that comes in a little red container. I use this and it works fairly well. It's a cream that you rub on the lenses and then buff off with a soft cloth. I have plastic lenses and and have had no problem applying this stuff. I bought it at Galyans and it might be available at REI.
Strange name for a product though.:crazy2:

Fogging is a big problem with paintball shtuff too...

Dive places will have a thermal product, or you can order some kind of an anti fog solution from just about any paintball shop, or online at www.actionvillage.com... Typically gels and stuff, work much better then liquids.

A hope remedy, you might want to try, that some people use, is one part water to one part baby shampoo... I've never used it, but some people say it works. Worse comes to worst, spit works, and it's free.

While I am spitting on my glasses, should I watch out for parked cars?

Thanks for the suggestions.

MORC.....always to good place to get answers and some good wisecracks to a problem you may have.

Proper Spit Technique: Smoke a large cigar, washed down with orange juice or milk - your choice. Practice spitting until you can hoc a luge about 10 to 15 feet; preferably hitting a tree just right so it hangs about six inches and freezes. The consistency should be perfect. Now spit copiously on to your glasses. Smush it all around with your fingers - front and back sides. Rinse gently with water to get the "hanger ons" off, and let air dry. It is a bit of black art, but aptly applied will be very effective and have the added benefit of a popouri for you eyes.:D

Sorry, I had to join in the fun.

When you go get your skates sharpend they should have an anti-fog treatment that is used on plastic hockey masks. I have used it in the past and it works pretty good.

Adam's got a point. If you were in shape you could just hold your breath the entire ride, ya pansy.
