View Full Version : Tube size question

I ordered a set of 2.4 Motoraptors for winter riding, and I don't know what tubes to use. Most of what I find is either 1.9-2.2(2.35) or DH tubes that are 2.5 and up. I know I've heard the Motos are a smaller 2.4, but I don't know how much smaller.
Anyone running these who can help me out, or am I overanalyzing this? :etard:
Thanks!
Dan,
Just go ahead and blow those babies up with the 2.2 tube inside of 'em. They'll work just fine. The tube will be strectched just a tad bit thinner but it's minor for that amount. You'll be all set to get out there and have some fun!

Cool! Now that I found a BB spacer, the bike can go back together, and I'll get out of the house!
Thanks Troy!

If you have ever seen a tube blown up outside of the tire, you will realize you could run a 1.5 tube. They get huge man. The walls might be thinner, but racers used to do this to save weight. Of course, this was before the crazy light weight tubes came out.

That was part of what I was concerned about, the tube getting thin, and more suceptible to pinch flatting, especially since I'll be running lower PSI than in the summer.
But you're right, you could float the Apple River on a 1.5 tube!! :D

I run 1.5 tubes in my 2.4 Mutano Raptors all the time and have never ever pinched one even bashing over rocks or logs. I have had flats from thorns and field stubble when poaching sand pits when the trails are closed.
That could happen at Salem if you drifted off the trail on the prairie sections. I'm not running studs and the Mutano's still get great grip.

Poor man's ultralight tubes - run 26x1.5's in 1.9/2.0 tires. Been doing it for years. :)
