Need some opinions and options for a new bike. Currently riding a practically stock Hard Rock Comp. Looking to move up to something with a little more of a xc approach. Looking for something with light to moderate rear suspension, disc brakes, and some decent components to boot. Working around the under a grand area, probably not enough, but it's around what I could afford. This comp is kinda hefty in the frame area, and the components aren't anything to jump up and down about.

I know, most of the time these threads are practically pointless, because to each his own. But I'm relatively new to mtn biking and I'm thinking I have a tendency to keep inside the box (trek, specialized, gf, etc.) Used really doesn't bother me, so if anyone is looking to upgrade, I'd probably be interested.

There is a guy selling 99 Specialized FSR Sport over in the classified, actually used to be my bike...that would fit your needs and leave you money for some up-grades...otherwise, iron horse offers some great budget bike. I'd definitely give them a look ar www.ironhorsebikes.com (http://www.ironhorsebikes.com)

Wicked, I'll have to check that out, my LBS access is kind of limited up in Bemidji, haven't had many good experiences around here. Might have to head to Park Rapids and see what they can price out for me too... Iron horse has a few intriguing setups.

Buck, what's your major going to be at BSU?

Mass Comm: concentration on electronic media...Closest thing I can find catered towards videography that I can afford.

I don't know anything about Adrenaline bikes, but I know you can do a lot for under or around a grand - http://tinyurl.com/557rt - I like the component options, but I'm too new to all this to know if their frames are any good.

Ah yes, the almighty mass comm department at good ol' BSU. That is where I spent many a year in that town. Bangsberg Hall was my home away from home. I had a public relations concentration. Also had a marketing communications concentration (virtually the same thing).

From what I found, your experience in the different media is more valuable than your education (meaning your diploma). Volunteer at KBSU tv and radio and hit up the Northern Student too. There are other media outlets in the Bemidji area that you could also contact for further experience. The degree wll get you in the door for an interview, the experiece will get you hired.

My 2cents.

You might want to look into a Jamis Dakar as well.

I'm looking into a Dakar right now, not much available locally, so might be resorting to mostly ebay.

Bangsburg, I was there today, good ole' public speaking class. Gotta love the urge to be a teacher.

Running away with this topic a little bit but I would also recommend trying to intern somewhere in the summer as well. Like Sean said the more real world experience you have the closer you are to landing a job somewhere.

I'd like to go back to school myself. Just so I can do thing differently than how I did them when I was there :).

Yeah...Well right now, I Travel way to much to intern during the summer and I have a job that lets me tavel a ton...don't really want to give it up, I ride alot that is the way I want to live. I mostly plan on doing indie stuff anyway, don't get me wrong an internship would be awesome just not in the near future. I have my whole life to work, i'd rather be poor and ride alot now, then be strapped to a desk wishing I had gone on that road trip...I think part of the program requires an internship anyway.
