I am converting my hardtail to single speed. I know that for the aluminum freehub bodies, you need a wide base cog. Do you need one for steel freehub bodies (low end Mavic or XT)? I just want to make sure that I don't wreck my free hub body, and also don't want to spend $40 for a King cog when a $4 Dx will do.
Thanks,
Ted

Ive always used the DX cogs and never had any troubles with a variety of hubs.

That's what I like to hear.....:)
I've seen posts about this on mtbr's SS forum, and the consensus seems to be that steel bodied freehubs don't need wide base cogs.
