Any idea on Serfas -vs- Trico cases ? Just want to drop 250$ once.

I like the Serfa case. If you are going to only use it once why not become a member of morc and rent my for $25? Then I'll give the $25 to MORC.

I like Shawn's idea.

I know at County Cycles in Roseville they have been selling the Trico Iron Case for a couple of years now. They also rent them where your rental fee applies to purchase if you would like to try them out. I know that a lot of the members of the triathalon team use them and they hold up very well. I have personal experience of using one only once though.

Oh... I would second the recommendation of getting your membership for MORC. You get a discount at a number of local supporting shops including County Cyces too.

I bought a hard sided luggage (very big) and a wheel bag. This way when I fly I take the rear swing arm off, pack the bike into the luggage. Check the wheels at the gate and that way I don't get charged to bring my bike.

It is a little more work to assemble/dis-assemble, but for the $160 round trip it is worth it to me.

my $.02.

I have heard of this before - not a bad idea. One question, how do you get your wheels to the gate? Don't they screen you at security and say "no way that is fitting on the plane" and make you go back and check it as luggage?

At MSP the wheels fit through the xray machine so no-one even questioned it. In Phoenix, I had to let the air out of the tires so it would fit through the machine. But had not problems at all. I suppose you could get something to protect the wheels and check them too.

What is that deal through IMBA/Adventure Travel? They say they'll transport your bike free for IMBA Members.

.... Anybody ever try it??? I did this last April. I think I flew into Vegas. But anyway it was a deal. It even said right on my ticket that I had a bike and it there was no charge for it. The thing was even about ten pounds heavy because i stuffed a bunch of mountaineering gear in the case too and I didn't get charged. I think that was all about who checked in the luggage though. I would say it worked well for me and the price I paid for the airfare was competitive.
