Returned my frame to Trek and it is going to cast a little coin to get the rear triangle fixed, so talked to the wife and she agrees that I need a new frame!!  The SS will have to wait now though.:cryin:

So, I am doing a lot of research so I can make a solid purchase that works for me. I remember someone had a website link in the forums that discussed bike sizing by inputing your body measurements. I cannot find the forum. Anyone have anything like that or know the forum link? Thanks.

Hey Gregg,

Have fun looking for a new frame. Getting a new ride is always exciting.

I think Wrenchscience.com is one website where you can input your measurements.

good luck!

I highly suggest the On-One Inbred Geared....

http://www.on-one.co.uk/products/gearedinbred.shtml

They have some sizing charts there for the frames.

It's the latest greatest geometry and Chromoly is such a smooth ride it rocks. If you want to try mine, you are welcome to give it a ride. I have the 16" which they suggest for 5'6" to 5'10" riders. This may sound small, but it isn't....it's a long and low frame.

I got mine through One on One Bicycle Studios.

There is an Inbred single at Kenwood right now too. After riding Shads I would take a hard look at this bike.

I had a Trek Fuel 98 (17.5). I am just under 5' 10". I am looking to get another full suspension with a little more rear travel. The Fuel was 3" and with my plans to ride more endurance races this year and a 4" travel front fork, and I am looking for a frame with 4" of travel with a XC feel. Thanks everyone for your help.

Good suggestion rowland...I can't remember which bike it is but KONA makes some rockin' bikes that fit that description.

Here is what I would get out of the KONA lineup and going for a fully squishy:

A Turner Flux would be my dream bike, but the moneys aren't quite there. I have been looking at a Dawg Primo ('04) for about $600, but was looking at the Kona website the other day and saw that they have a similar frame the "A" for a little less.

Does anyone know the difference? I can't find anything about it. I am going to email them today. And Shad, in a money grows on trees world, I would have many bikes and the On One Inbred would be my hardtail.

The 'A' is designed as a FS singlespeed (no derailleur hanger). I've not heard much about it other than that.

Money does grow on trees. You just have to give the tree a lot of luvin'.....and I mean A Lot A Luvin'

Yeah the Kona A is a bad ass singlespeed. my buddy back home has one. Its got about 3 inches in the back and real light. I would say for xc go with a kona dawg. my moms got one and that the bike i use as a loner bike everytime i go visit home. solid 4x4. i know the 2005 dawgs they added an inch of rear wheel travel, so its a 5 inch now. anyway i would look for either a dawg, a bear(the dawg replaced the bear in 03 i think), or a kikapoo. Anyway you slice it, if you get a kona you'll be happy. hope i helped. later:banana:

I was about to pull the trigger on a '03 Kona Dawg or Kikapu Deluxe when I saw the dream bike on closeout.

2004 Turner Burner with Manitou Swinger 3-Way for $850:crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2: . I couldn't pass it up!!!  Now I get to build her up. I will post pics when it is all said and done.

BTW, I ended up not sending my old frame back to Trek. So if anyone is interested in a 2002 Trek Fuel 98 17.5" with a rideable crack in the rear triangle, PM me with an offer.:etard:

What kind of greenage is Trek asking to fix the frame? My pawnshop bike has a frame that is too big for me - makes it easy on downhills because I can loop my leg around the frame, but I know I'm going to bust my nads at least once learning this year. I should even think about this. I need to work on the main broken component - that would be me :)

To have Trek replace the rear triangle is $300 (includes a $115 discount). I was looking to have them add the dics brake option for an extra $30. It is still in ridable shape, but it gave me a good reason to get a new bike!!!

Isn't the Fuel 98 a carbon (including swingarm) bike?

No amount of $$$ in the world could get me to ride cracked OCLV 120....

smeulebroe
01-12-2005, 01:12 PM
You are not going to want to ride a cracked OCLV frame. I watched a friend break the frame in half flying down some singletrack. He was OK but once you get a crack in the frame I would have it fixed.

Sorry I didn't respond to the forum, but I have been busy with having my first child on 1/13. Things have been a little hectic around here.

I did buy my Turner at Supergo and it looks great. It is going to take me awhile to build though with the little one taking up the majority of my time right now.

Took my new frame to LBS to get the Head Tube faced and the Bottom Bracket Faced and Chased. The head tube went great, but one side of the bottom bracket was screwed up from the factory and it cracked during the chasing.

Now Turner ("The Quality Bike Company") is not standing behind their product:mad:  , Supergo will accept the return, but is out of Medium frames:cryin: :cryin: . They good thing in this whole process is that the LBS has been great and is willing to work with me to make sure I am happy. They have a customer for life!!!

I am waiting to here if Turner is going to step up to the plate. I am just having a really hard time with a company that prides themselves on quality and their product being handmade in the US, not stepping up to the plate and fixing the problem. Sorry had to vent!!!

Sorry to hear about the frame. I hope Turner steps up to the plate and does the right thing. At least it's winter and you won't be jonesn' to ride the new bike. Glad to hear the LBS is on your side. Hope it all works out for ya.

Got the straight scoop from Turner and LBS has been giving me some misinformation. Turner has decided to replace the frame and they have gone above and beyond the level of normal service. Great to see there are companies out there that still look out for the customer.

So what was the mis information??? Sometimes shops are a-holes whe you don't the product from or through them...maybe that was the problem??? Glad it worked out ok though!!!

All the times I've warrantied(believe me quite few times) I got screwed by the shop and not the company...I had a derailluer where the barrel went bad in like a week on my Enduro, Shimano said warranty through the shop I bought the bike from, the un-named shop said it wasn't a warranty, sold me an XT, then I later found out they did send the XTR r.DR in for warranty and sold the new one on the floor!!! To say the least they will no longer see my buisness ever again...

It was along those similar lines. The LBS said they were working to get a new frame for me to replace the one they screwed up, but then came back to say there were no longer frames available, but would I like one of the frames that they deal in.

After talking to Turner, they said the LBS told Turner it was not needed for them to look for a replacement Turner frame and it was taken care of. Needless to say, after this is done, I will be going elsewhere...

I think those types of buisnesses should be exposed for the service they try to get away with. If you and Buck don't mind I'd like to know the name of the shops, so I don't get screwed. I hate when shops play these types of games with people. And this is why there is internet shopping.

Gregg,

Sorry you had to go through all the headache. At least you're in good shape now. From all I've heard about Turner, I was rather suprised when you first said that they were dropping the ball on their customer service. Glad it's all working out for you now. Summer can't come soon enough for you now I suppose. ;)

Gregg - glad to hear things are working out in the end. When I first read your post about Turner it really surprised me based on the their reputation (just go over to MTBR in the mfg forums for example) and I was thinking mabye it was the shop or just misscomunication. I'm thinking of buying a Turner myself and am happy to hear the way they stand behind their frames.

I wouldn't mind knowing the name of the shop as well.

Greg, I'm glad to hear that it all worked for the best. I've heard many times what a great company Turner is too, that's one of the many reasons why I just bought a 2005 5spot. I must say they were great to work with, mind you I only spoke with them twice, but both times they were very friendly and accommodating. Much better then some of my past dealings with some of the big companies.

I look forward to seeing you out on the trails this summer. Oh, and by the way, my wife and I just had a baby too. So two new additions in my household too. I finally buy the bike of my dreams, and I become new dad, so I won't have any times to ride it. Go figure:confused:

I wouldn't mind knowing the name of the shop as well.

It wasn't Freewheel, was it?? That would really mess up my personal loyalties... and I'd be surprised if it was One-on-One from what I've heard about the shop.

I'm guessing it is one of the local 'chains' somewhere in or around Eden Prairie.

Although I doubt it matters too much. I'd bet there are salespeople at nearly every LBS that would try to turn this situation into a sale. From my experience every shop has its good employees, and unfortunately, its bad ones.

...2002. Kidding...sort of. Turner should give me some form of volume discount for spreading the gospel of DT in MN.

Glad to see Turner did what it normally does - i.e. provide rock solid CS. DT himself often directly responds to any CS issues.

Great company. Now where is my 4" travel Turner 29er frame DAVE?

Nice bike ice.

Yeah, they are FMJ without the straight tubes. So far with my limited use they seem to have smooth operation. I don't know how much the use of the straight tubes would improve that, but I like them so far.

The Badgers really have a tough schedule to finish the season. I just hope they can hold it together, grab the MacNaughton Cup, and stay fresh for the post season.
