If you can get to a shop, you can use a bike box and cut it down and re-tape the end up to make a wheel size box. Thats what we did when we had no wheel boxes around.

Ship the wheel through the postal service. It is a lot cheaper.
Typically FedEx ground is the cheapest, followed by UPS then postal service. They must have measured it wrong.

I have a 2 wheel box from JensonUsa you are welcome to. Otherwise, I'd buy a box at a UPS store, or mail boxes, etc, and ship it USPS or Fedex ground.
I just re-read your original post - don't ship via the UPS store (previously mail boxes etc.) Total rip-off. If you use UPS - go to one of their distribution centers. Much cheaper than the UPS store. But FedEx ground is really the way to go.

I agree that going to an actual UPS center will save you some money. Try to find a box that's dimensions don't exceed 84" if possible. Determine that by measuring the girth (smallest dimension around the box) plus the longest edge. That will keep it from being oversized.

You can go to your local bike shop and ask if they have a wheel box. Most of the high end wheels come in a specially designed box. The last individual wheel that I shipped cost less than $15 going USPS Priority Mail. If appropriately sized, you will not get dinged for over-size fee like you will from UPS.

I paid 50-60 to ship via UPS one wheel to canada, man did i ever lose on that sale :cryin:. If you are shipping inside U.S. you will almost always save by going postal as long as package is not too big.
