Brush clearing at Steeplechase - Sunday 5th
(12/1/04)

Sunday Dec. 5th at 8:00am will be a brush clearing trail work day on the MTB course at Steeplechase. Anyone interested in helping (MTBer or not) is welcome to come out and help clear the intermediate and beginner trail corridor that is now flagged. Our goal is to clear a path that will allow GPS mapping of the trail and make room for equipment and crews to break soil on the new trail next spring. Meet at Steeplechase and bring loppers, shears, chain saw, rake, ax or brush hook or just yourself and gloves with food and fluids for the day. We will work in groups of 4 with a leader so no experience necessary

Could you post some directions how to get there?

I'm probably going up north this weekend (gotta pick up my old bike), but *IF* I happen to stay in town, I'll be able to help for a few hours. Unfortunately, my brush hook is also up north now. They are great for blazing new trail.

I'm gonna try to make it, I think I can make some plans fall through. I think I can get there off of the steeplechase website, but their map doesn't get too detailed...

From Red Wing, it looks like I'll take 58 to Zumbrota, then take 60 east until nearly Mazeppa, turning south onto County Road 1. The map makes it look like you stay on this until the ski area is off to the right... this is where it gets a bit sketchy.. is this correct?

You could also take 61 south through Red Wing and LAke City... but I think that would take longer (though would be more scenic for sure).
