View Full Version : Paging TIM WEGNER to the courtesy phone!!!!
Hey Tim,
I saw all the pics of steeple, very near my home turf, well it is part of my home turf! Anywoo, I was wonderin if there are any dates for the IMBA classes and stuff that'll be held there(if that is happening) I will again offer my home and great down home cookin'!(well my parents home! :D ) for the week or weekends that they are in town, maybe it'll save MORC some money we can use to put up some structures at Steeple Chase. The plus side is I am closer then it would be to drive to Roch, and its FREE.
Thanks in advance for any info!

HI Adam
Dale and I did the flagging of the short beginner trail and a nice 4+ mile intermediate trail on Saturday and Sunday last weekend. We have also determined what the race course route will be once the trail gets constructed. The downhill and dual slalom/biker cross route is in concept form right now and will be reviewed by a pro downhill racer from Colorado at the end of December. Looks like the downhill course will be somewhere around a mile to a mile and a half. The dual slalom/biker cross will be closer to .5 miles. These distances and the time that it will take to complete them is about the same as you will see at more premier race sites throughout the country.
Dale and I believe that this area has the potential for 12-15 miles of trail when all is finished. We did nothing with the more difficult section at this point only because we did not want to get too far ahead of the work crew. The more difficult areas, including freeeride, will be part of next springs trail design session.
The area has some tremedous limestone blocks that can be used to create drops on the downhill course as well as ride features on the expert trail areas. Kevin the owner is planning on running the lift on weekends but only on a limited basis (like on the hour for 15 minutes) until demand increases. Dale and I recommneded that the bike groups out of Rochester and Red Wing sponsor regular races at this location to help with rider draw as well as help to increase regular use of this site.
The next step for the Rochester group will begin in the next couple of weeks. They will begin to clear the corridor with loppers trimmers and chain saws. After that Dale and I will review the trail with them and then they will GPS the corridor so it does not disappear during the winter. (Dale and I have learned that deer love to eat the orange flagging tape that we use for marking the trail corridor)
As far as dates for the IMBA school---I have not gotten the word that we will get a school this year. Although I did lobby hard for the school and I think we stand a very good chance to get the school I am not guarnteed that one will be given to us here in the Southern Minnesota area. IMBA will be here for a trails conference this summer but that does not guarntee that we will get the school.
Hope that answers your questions Adam. If you would like to send me an e-mail I will give you the contact information for the group down there so you can become involved with the building process. twegner50@yahoo.com

Will dates and times of the initial trail work be posted here when they start happening? I would like to try and lend a hand to other southern trails when possible, as A) technically that's the region I'm in, and 2) likely it will be harder to get large crews like in the cities (where sometimes finding lots of help is tough as it is). It's almost an hour from me... but just as close as Leb and Terrace so definately something I could make it to if work permits...
