I have suffered through a combi of Gripshift and XT rear for way too long (9 YRS)! Works marginally under the best conditions and goes in the dumper immediately once it mucks up.
I am a Gripshift fan and it is what I am accustomed to! I have tried triggers and do not care for them and the new Shimano shifter/brake lever combo makes no sense. This winter I plan to dump my Shimano derailleurs and go with the 1:1 actuation ratio that Gripshift was/is designed for. I have heard the SRAM X-9 or X-0 is the way to go. I have heard there is a SRAM front derailleur available too.
What is the word out there? SRAM good? SRAM bad? Is the X-0 even worth considering for the extra $100?

The Sram stuff is great. I've been using it for years. I really like my XO derailer, but the X-9 is good also. I made the switch to Srams triggers from throtle twisters. I think they work great, only one finger for changing gears. Is it worth the extra money for the XO, I'd say it's a toss up. If you like Sram you'll like the new stuff. And now that they have their front der. out, I can go all Sram. No more Shimano for this guy.
FWIW - on the new rig I am building up this winter, I am going with SRAM triggers and rear derailleur. I will probably stick with a XT front derailleur until the SRAM has been in service a while with other riders and there is a lot of feedback (good or bad)
I agree with Troy, the X0 or X9 is a toss up. If you have the extra coin laying around that XO adds a bling factor for sure!

Sram stuff rocks. I don't like gripshift, so I never ran it until they came out with the triggers. I've been running the X.9 trigger and rear derailleur on my DH bike all last season, and it never gave me a single problem. The der has held up to some pretty good bashings, too. I wouldn't go with the X.0 just for the fact that it costs almost twice as much, and I'm not too big into gram counting.
The front derailleur is coming out, but I don't know if it's available yet, or when it will be.

...are rock solid. That said, I don't see how you can improve on the Shimano front derailleur as it's a pretty simple part. Greg Herbold - pro DHer (and formerly pro XC?) insists on running nothing but an LX front mech FWIW.
Like XTR, I wouldn't part with the coin (again) for the hi zoot stuff unless you absolutely, positively need the blinginess. Take the extra $XXX and upgrade your wheelset or fork to really feel performance gains.
I'm still rockin' a combo of 8spd XTR/XT and have nary a problem. I killed too many 9spd cassettes. XTR stainless for me baby.

I am going with X.9... I don't see the price difference is worth it for X.0.
