View Full Version : Virginia report...
Hey guys,
Well I trekked on up to virginia yesterday. Damn that stuff is amazing!!! Didn't ride so much, did more location scouting. I was wonderin if anyone that has been there could give me some info. I pulled into alot of abandoned pit mines and HUGE slag piles or what ever. They all had gates that were open but then I would see old rusty No Trespassing signs. So can you go into them still??? I saw lots of 4 wheeler tracks, and I found some killer lines that I could have ridden but I don't want a ticket!!!
Thanks

Dude, I just drove past there sunday coming back from deer hunting, that pit right out side of Eveleth right before Virginia looked sweet, it's got all kinds of 4-wheeler trails on it. I almost drove off the rode drooling over it. Let me know if you find out anything, I've always thought that would be a sweet spot! There is some killer terrain up on the iron range, too bad it is so far from the TCs.
HAHAHA, yeah man, believe me I found some super SIC lines but damn I don;t want to get busted!!! You guys ever hear of the mad river rocket??? It's like a knee board for snow, last winter me and my buds were throwin down like 360, flips, grinds, HUGE drops(12-15'!) Anyway I found a road gap that will be do able this winter if we get enough snow!
I'm still lookin for some good info on the area though.

Mad River Rockets are sweet. I'm a big kid inside and still love to go sledding. I actually just lent my brother my rocket cause he lives in Montana and figured he could get more use out of it there.
My friend got me a deal on the sled because he used to be a quasy outside rep for the company. He found them on the web when they were just starting out and mentioned how he loved sledding as a kid and they brought him on to help promote the product and even paid for a trip to go to Nevada once to go sledding with their group. For a few years we got to have a booth at Midwest Mountaineering show and hang out and show sledding videos. You should check out the videos on their website.
I'll try and dig up a photo of us on our sleds. To bad my back is shot and it almost hurts to much to go big these days. They need one with suspension :D
Yeah, man I bought me sled\ from the Expo show at Midwest Mountaineering like 5 yrs ago or something, didn't get to use it for three yrs, before I started poachin ski hill after close. Ever been to coffee mill, o chute is deadly on one of these things, and we did tow ins during snow storms...I'll dig up the vid so you can check it out. I've seen all the vids on their website, and I actually gave them mine too. Hey do you know if Midwest still carries them I want to get one of the new ones!

Here is the response I got from my friend:
You can still get them at Midwest for 75 bucks though they were on sale last week for 50. If he's still using the yellow sled seen in the video, he'd love the new-and-improved "killer bee" (black with yellow strap and pads)...
the plastic is thicker, the shape is more conduscive to floating on
powder and... get this, it has an edge. not a metal edge, but they did
something pretty cool giving it a double plastic edge that is about as
sharp as plastic can get and should be quite good for carving on more
packed snow. also, gives the sled more rigidity overall.
Damn, to bad I don't live in the cities or I would have picked one up when they were on sale!!! Glad to hear they still carry them though, maybe this weekend I can pick one up! I've been readin about all the improvements, didn't know about the edge thing though, when we got 30" of snow that was the one thing I found difficult the sled was fast but in fresh powder it was tough to get goin.
