Just FYI- the Greenway is now open all the way east to Highway 55 / Hiawatha. It exits right at 26th street. I took a spin around there last night after work- looks great. Everything except for the rough looking characters giving me the eye from under one of the bridge overpasses, that is. Hopefully the park police will patrol this new section and keep 'er safe!

Yeah, I noticed they opened up the new access ramps from Park Ave and the trail headed east from there. Can't wait to try it out. Probably only do it during the day there! Gets a little dicey east of Park! Maybe the fact that my v-ball teamate was at a stoplight on Lake and Bloomington and some gang-banger starting shooting randomly at people across the street at that intersection makes me a little worried about being in some of those sections after dark.

That's crazy- I haven't seen anything like that, luckily. I did call 911 on those guys on the trail, and I just got a call back from the Po-Po this morning. Apparently they did actually send a squad down there and managed to chase down and arrest a couple of 'em. The only thing they'll be able to charge them with is graffiti, but that's better than nothing.
So anyway, if anyone sees anything going on, it's always a good idea to pull out the cell and call 911! Also, they stressed the importance of calling the Minneapolis Graffiti hotline and reporting graffiti so they can come in and clean it up. Apparently prompt clean up is a deterent, and at the very least makes everything look better.

Yeah, I work on 23rd and Park and I don't think it's too bad, but I use common sense when I have to come in to work at night. A guy got shot on 35th and Park just this afternoon. Of course most shootings are gang and drug related in Mpls, but I worry that this Greenway tends to be a little isolated and has many dark little places to get in trouble in after dark. Hopefully it will be fine, cause it looks like a great addition to the existing paths we have out there!
