I am about to pickup a kona stinky and was wondering if the frame sizes are similar on the FS frame vs. hardtail? i ride a 15.5 hard tail kona and the stinky im looking at is 17.

Buck and james or anyone else..what size is your frame? anyone know what dustins from the bmxdude day frame size was?

not sure if anyone has a stinky to test ride.

thanks

Mines a 17 inch. but you really just need to ride a couple and figuer out what feels best. My guess is a 17 inch would work for your size. hope i helped. hey man you wanna urban downtown this weekend? let me know

later

Generally you want to run a smaller frame for FR/DH so that it is easier to move around on. Second every company measures their frames differently, could you post up the bike metrics? I ride a Medium, but with the Bighits the only change between sizes was the tt length. Third I would really try to find one that you could test ride before you buy. I was lucky that my frame fit well, b/c I ordered mine w/o ever test riding a bighit. The stinky is a great choice, KONAs are bomb proof!!!

Post up more questions and we'll try to answer the!

Definatly test ride a few different sizes. My demo 9 is a medium, and I'm 5' 11".

Behind Bars in NE sells Kona's. Last time is was in there though they didn't have any big rigs yet. You could always call and ask. You check out the Transition Dirtbag yet? You can get that with a Z150 and then build it up. The Stinky sounds like a good ride, but for a few $100 more you can get a better fork and overall build with the Dirtbag. That's my plan.

At your height, you want a small freeride frame. The smaller it is, the more control you will have over it. I am 5' 7" and think a 17" is too big for me. Most freeriders have their seats super low too. This allows for more clearance and control.

Hey Shad, I remember you were looking at the Transition bikes as well? You pull the tigger on anything yet?

Hey, my kona is a size medium, not sure what size that is in inches, but its a medium. By the way, has anyone heard of coil springs snapping in half, cause i sat on my bike today after an hour of riding and it just snapped. I also broke my shock mounting bolt in half.

I've heard of it on cars, but never on a bike. First for everything, though. Usually happens because of a flaw in the spring (improper temper). I assume the shock mount bolt snapped because the spring did...?

Yeah NE is Northeast Minneapolis. Behind Bars is on 12th Ave just off of 2nd street if I remember. Orange building, used to be a service garage.

MN_FR,
I'd try to warranty that spring if you are still in the window, that is definately a flaw, either a bad temper like Mike said or an internal flaw (small void) inside the coil someplace. Look at the two exposed faces where it failed and see if you can see evidence of a small void, air pocket, you might need a magnifying glass. Evidence of that would prove a manufacturer defect undoubtedly.
