I am 195-200 lbs depending on gear.
I like to ride aggressive XC, cross logs and boulders and take some hard decents. Also there is the typical climbing required by the metro area trails.

I'm looking for some good advice as to how to set the positive and negative air pressures for my riding style. At least a starting point where I can adjust from.

According to the manual, I should start with about 48 to 49 lbs of positive air pressure. What is a good value to start at for the negative air?

Can someone briefly explain what the negative air will change in the range of
0 - 150 psi.

Thanks! I'm totally pumped to receive my new ride tomorrow via FedEx!

...you some direction to start with, but better info is available on www.mtbr.com.

I go 250# and run 40-45psi + in each leg and 150psi -. I've yet to change oil to make sure my oil levels are proper - a common issue for new forks coming from Marzocchi.

The negative air adds to the plushness of the fork in terms of slowing rebound...as does the first 2 clicks of the ECC...as does running more or heavier weight oil.

50psi will be really stiff for you - you won't likely get full travel. Start around 40psi and adjust accordingly as the fork breaks in. Also, set the negative at 150psi and work down based on feel.

Also, find a low pressure shock pump if you can as most (like mine) read PSI in 10psi so it makes it more difficult to fine tune.

My $0.02,

Sean

so the higher the negative pressure the more plush the fork feels, and as I let the negative pressure out I will be able to feel small bumps more and more?

...but it is all relative. I only suggest starting at the highest negative PSI given that the fork is brand new and you've had a chance to try different set ups.

The SLs are prone to harsh top out which can be mitigated by upping the negative air spring as well as making sure you have the right amount and weight of oil in the fork.

I've yet to start experimenting with oil weight and levels...will be a winter project.

Look in the Turner forum on MTBR and search for post from Tscheezy - he's a great resource for Z1SL tuning.
