OK, so you’ve read all the informative notes – AT THIS IS THE TIME I AM ASKING FOR YOUR HELP!! We need many hands to make what is pretty easy work go quickly and show the City of Bloomington and it’s citizens that we can deliver on our promise.

First trail FINISHING session Saturday 23rd October 9AM to approx 1PM Parkers Picnic Ground off of Columbus Road in Bloomington (directions below).

With many notes this year I’ve kept you informed about what is happening with the Bloomington River Bottoms Multi-Use Trail in general, and specifically the two proposed trail re-routes on the east or bluff side of the trail. As you know building on MORC’s work from the last several years we prepared a proposal to the city of Bloomington which included repairing several sensitive areas with new trail building, bridges & boardwalks, plus the ongoing maintenance that we have always performed. This proposal was ultimately approved in September, in the past month we finalized the trail layout, organized and completed trail clearing work, have started building the bridges & boardwalks, and Trail Source completed the rough cut dirt work. Now we need your help to bring this project to conclusion. The reroutes amount to less a half mile of trail in total. Over the next couple of weeks we will hold several trail finishing sessions where we do the fine grading work with hand tools to blend the trail in to the surrounding landscape – in the end the object is for the trail to look like it was always there and shed water so that erosion does not occur.

We need you help urgently now as the rough dirt work is a bit unsightly at this time and we don’t want any complaints!

We also may need some help carrying in materials for one of the bridges we are constructing.

Meet at the Parkers Picnic area parking lot at 9AM, Saturday October 23rd. Bring gloves a shovel, garden rake or leaf rake, and/or loppers if you have them. I suggest wearing work boots since we may be working near a stream. If you arrive late, go thru the gate on the east of the lot to the trail area, and find us by following the ribbon and cleared trail which starts part way down the big hill about 150 yards east of the picnic table.

Directions to the parking lot: The areas is near the terminus of Portland Avenue, south of Old Shakopee Road in Bloomington. Get to Portland Avenue from wherever you are – then head south on Portland Ave until you are forced to turn right onto 104th street. Take an immediate left onto 5th Ave circle. Take the next left, on Columbus Road. The parking lot is on the right side at the bottom of the hill.

Steve,

As it stands right now I should be able to get down there this Saturday and lend a hand. I can bring 4 Mcleods and a flat bottom shovel.

That is awesome - thanks for the support and we can for sure use the tools - where are all the pulaskis?

Pat Arneson and Tom Anderson have most of the Pulaski's that MOCA has. The 4 Macleods that I am bringing are the ones that I got from Doug Holtz from Terrace.

I'm sorry I can't be there in a vain attempt to keep up with Gerrits.

Erik, any chance you could grab some of those Pulaskis after the Wirth session tonight?

I wasn't able to get out to trail work tonight, but I might be able to pick some of the tools up tomorrow.

That would be fabulous - getting some from John Lundell as well - no pulaskis though for some reason.

Regarding the rain & storms - the prediction is that they are going to be widely scattered later today/tonight - so I am still planning on holding the trail session tomorrow unless we really get dumped on locally - watch this space for updates or call me tomorrow AM if you have any questions at 952 201 6294.

Counting on your help!

Well, the rain held off (mostly) - and with the dozen or so who showed up we completed about 80% of the hand finishing - nice work team!!!

Look for more updates here soon - this week we will probably work more on the bridges and boardwalk - next weekend we probably will not schedule a finishing session in deference to the Wirth work sessions.

Erik, somehow I ended up with 2 orange flat bottomed shovels - was one yours?

If anyone walked off with any tools let me know..I think I'm missing a couple.

We're missing 3 Mcleods after yesterdays session. These are currently the most difficult tools to find and the ones we can least afford to lose. If anyone took one with them yesterday or brought some then took some that might possibly have gotten them mixed up please PM me. I really need to know where these are at, as they belong to the Lebanon tool set.

Maybe someone could go by the work site as well and take a quick peek to see if any are lying out there hidden or something.. ?

Steve,

One of the shovels is mine. I couldn't find it on the walk out.

Thanks,

Erik
