Hey James, I seen you and your family out at Leb. last Sunday. I was riding the Blue Banshee Scirocco. I have been running the Intense DH Mag30 rims with no problems. I know your not to worried about weight, because they are on the hefty side. I've been running them for two years now and they are holding up great.
Mag 30 are a great choice, what would make them even better is to get them hand built...they will last WAAAAAY longer if they are hand built...that being said I run a double wide up front and a singeltrack in the rear, 24s of course:cool: , if you don;t want the weight I would look at the double track great rims!

What kinda riding are you gonna be doing? I've used both Sun Singletracks and Mavic EX729's. The EX729's tend to flatspot pretty easily, but they still roll.
24's are stronger, because of the shorter spoke. 26's roll faster because of the larger diameter.
Handbuilt wheels are much stronger, if the builder knows what he's doing.

ok, i found a sun rhyno lite xl 24" rim on pricepoint for 25 bucks, I think i would go that route, but i can't seem to find any 24" tires there. what the hell? and i don't suppose that when you buy the rim it comes with the spokes, or does it? any help would be appreciated.
thanks
james.

No, they don't come with spokes.
Hey man,
Sorry I just noticed that a post I thought was up here got messed up via the wonderful internet...I think 24s are great, but they are a love/hate thing... I like them, total believer in them myself...they are stronger, and for racing throw a 3.o tire on there and it is the same diameter as a 26'" wheel with 1.95...I;m also a smaller guy so the bike is easier to whip around in the air, it is better for super tech stuff, and I can boost lips better, the specialized 2003 BH expert is designed around a 24" rear wheel. some of the drawebacks are pretty low number of 24" tires but every year you see more, they slow down faster, they supposedly hang up on stuff...I road keystone and Vail this summer and noticed no problem of hanging up on rocks, but as with anything you change on your bike you have to give it time to get used to it...Other than that if you can I would try before you buy, I went in blend and would say that I am just lucky that I liked it...other wise I would have been you the cost of a DW/hadley hub/14g spokes! also check out the DH/FR forum on MTBR.com this gets brought up often, search 24s and you should get a ton of info...
