I'm going on my first night ride at lebanon tonight. I was wandering is it better to have your light on the handle bars or your helmet?

I'd do helmet if I had to do one or the other. It allows you to direct the light at where you are headed, not off the trail the way your bike faces (like when going around corners, trees etc.)

If you've only got one light, then it's better to have it on your helmet.
It helps to be able to see "around" corners.

Greg,
It was great riding along with you Friday night at Leb. I agree with the suggestions about having the lights mounted on your helmet. I was lucky you were following me because every so often my lights were pointing into the woods, but that's because I can't mount mine on my helmet.
See you around,
Jeff
