You beat me to it!!
...SCA paid Armstrong $1.5 million in 2002 and $3 million in 2003.
Compton said the company has put the $5 million for 2004 into a custodial account with J.P. Morgan. "Our story is, we've posted $5 million while we perform an investigation that we're compelled to perform," Compton said. "We have an excellent record paying claims."

I read the article and don't understand it. Is this his bonus from the TDF for winning this year? Almost sounds like some kind of insurance payout based on a premium he paid in 2001?
Also, doesn't he give the bonus back to his teammates as is tradition?

That's my understanding. But they're hesitant to hand it over to him without a drug test. Silly if you ask me. Unless they have stated in a contract somewhere that all pay-offs will be dependant on a test I say PAY UP! Those guys deserve it.
I think the premium they paid was to ensure that they got the bonus... <I think>
