View Full Version : What's up with trail work at B.C.?

Every time I head over to B.C. to ride now, I see more results of a bulldozer. On the upper part of the trails, closest to the community center, there are tracks everywhere, and it looks like there might be new trail construction. Fern Gully has been all torn up too. On the lower part of the trails around the meadow, there's a bunch of fresh dirt piled up across the trail. And the alternate entrance/exit to the palette climb has been blocked off by some branches. Is Ramsey County actively building new ski trails, or what?

I think it might be that time of year when maintenance work is done before the ski season ? I've noticed alot of work going on when i've been there at lunch during the week. I think soon they put wood chips down on the upper ski trails. I'am not sure what is going on in Fern valley. I've seen trucks there from the county. I haven't seen anything on the bluff side of Battle however.

With the National Masters Championships scheduled for BC this January, it only makes sense that they may be doing some work on the ski trails:

The schedule states: " Caution: Road crossing to be used in Sunday event not in place."
If there's work going on around the meadow, this would explain it as well, as I read this as a crossover BC road from the main XC trail system. Course maps for the event have not been posted at this time. I think they're shooting for a full 10k of trail for the event, and BC currently lists 6 on their official site.

Yeah, that would explain it all right. Hopefully the bike trails don't suffer as a result.

The bike trails shouldn't suffer. In fact, some of the work was done at the request of MORC. In particular, we've been asking for a re-route around a badly eroded section of the core ski loop for a couple years.
On occasion, the heavy equipment does leave a mess in places the singletrack crosses. If you spot such an occurance, let us know, so we can smooth out the track.
Thanks!

....speaking of trail work, any idea when we're going to have another BC session?
.....edit....just saw the other threads.....nevermind.....

Found one area today that was a little munged from the heavy equipment: It is in the singletrack coming out of Fern Gully by the log over. The bypass alt route above the logover has been cut at the following location:
44 deg 55.885N
093 deg 01.299W
Shouldn't be too bad to fix.
