So who knows about campatibility of disc hubs. Are they all standard for any brand rotors or do you have to know what rotors you want.

I want the new Avid disc brakes, but will they fit on Shimano XT disc hubs? If not, what other hubs will I have to look into with these brakes? I can't find many websites that specify this kind of info.

any hub with a 6 bolt pattern will fit all standard brakes(avid, hayes, magura, ext...)

look on e-bay for wheelsets.
sometimes you'll be down-right shocked at the deals.

Yes they will fit. I run Hayes rotors on XT hubs. I think they all went to a standard pattern.

That's suprising - I would have thought for sure that Shi#mano would have said "we're cooler - so we're gonna have our own bolt pattern!"

But I'm glad that they all work together.

Aren't shimano hubs "center lock" and avid rotors IS? Can you use a shimano IS rotor with avid brakes?

Shad - have you looked here: http://forums.mtbr.com/forumdisplay.php?f=51

Still makes non-proprietary IS (Int'l Standard) disc brake hubs. If you want a good value get some Surly's...at least for the front. For the rear you can get a good deal on NOS (New Old Stock) Shi+mano XTs or other knock-off OE brands.

Not quite Chris King, but the Hope Bulb hubs are bomber and significantly less expensive while being a definite notch up front the working class Shi+mano goods.

Shimano still has some 6-bolt pattern hubs. You can run the XT and XTR centerlock rotors with an Avid caliper, though.

Thanks all.

Now I kind of know what to do. It's nice to know there is some standardization going on.
