Ok all,

Here are the hard and fast rules for the First Annual MORC Movie Contest.

1. ALL FOOTAGE WILL BE PG-13 OR LOWER!!!!!!

Movies will be screened by non-voting person before hand to assure this...

We want to keep the contest family friendly, so keep swearing to 1 or 2 occurances, music family friendly, Nudity to only what could be seen on Network TV, blood, gore and violence as needed to show the danger of our sport, etc.

2. Please try and keep the movies between 5 and 7 minutes. Any Movie longer than 10 min will be cut off at that point and judged accordingly

3. Please title your movie and send said title to Eric Lelos by September 27th. Unless you want to face the impossible task of winning as a write-in.

4. Please leave all credits and such off the movie so that it is not blatantly obvious who made the movie. We want to try to keep the vote as non-partisan as possible.

5. Formats should be PC readable and on either a DVD or CD in as high as resolution as possible to look good projected on a 10 foot screen.

6. Must be a MORC member to be elegible for the awards.

7. All Material becomes the property of MORC. heheheheh

8. Anything else which we think is important... So do your best.

Any Questions please contact me

Hmmm. I totally agree to everything but rule number 7, it's my footage, not that I care that much but I think that rule should be removed.(unless that was a joke of course)

BuckNope it will have to stay.... It is to be taken with a grain of Salt but we do reserve the right to place the movies on our website and take portions of them as footage to be used, where appropriate for promotion of MORC in Powerpoint presentations and such to Land Managers, the Media, etc.

Credit for the work will be maintained and given but MORC reserves the right to use the footage in the future.

I know this might sound a little harsh, but we need all the help we can get in promoting ourselves.

We are using this contest not only as a fun event at our annual meeting, and as a way for MORC members to get awards for putting something together, but we are also using it as a tool to get something more useful than membership dues back from our membership. Promotional material for MORC to use for the greater good.

Yes we will be putting it up on the web.
Yes we will be using it to promote MORC
Yes, in a way we might be getting something for it, but in the form of more park to build in, more trails to ride on, and more exposure for what we are all about.

If you do not wish to give MORC rights to the footage, I would guess that we could have you show, but not participate in the contest. All other rules would still apply.

Does anyone else out there have any problem with this rule? or have ideas about it?

All ideas are appreciated.

I understand now. As long as the person that shot the footage and the people that took the time to edit and make the short clips get credit...otherwise it's just not right, it's a respect thing. I have no problem with sharing footage to further the "cause" but I sure wouldn't mind knowing what the footage is being used for.
Thanks for the clarification.

PS: I rode for a rather shabby unit that said if I rode for them they would give me the footage for a sponsorship video...well after having months of e-mails and un-answered phone calls I was unable to get the footage...yet my picture and footage of me is on there website...with no credit to riders...that is why I ask...

Credit for the work will be maintained and given but MORC reserves the right to use the footage in the future.

Adam did bring up a good point, though.

"All material becomes the property of MORC" could be interpretted that MORC then owns the copyright

The proper interpretation/wording should be "MORC reserves the right to use all submitted material for future promotional purposes"

So the creators of the material still maintains ownership and full copyright, but by entering the contest give permission to MORC to use it, as long as MORC isn't selling it. Otherwise you get into royalties and all that.

I'm not sayin' I'm just sayin'. (Can you tell I work in the music business?)

The important thing is that if it becomes no fun becuase you are worried about who owns the footage, don't do it or submit it... we shouldn't need lawyers to hold this type of event ;)
