View Full Version : Hunting up in Memorial Park?

Anyone know the dates that bowhunting is open in Memorial Park. It opens up statewide this weekend, but am thinking I heard somewhere that there are only certain times and or dates that it's legal within the city limits.

I'm too lazy tonight to call up the city to ask and I'm out of town (traveling to the metropolis of Pocatello, ID for work) until Thursday so if no one has the dirt by then I'll just have to call up the city.

Related note: Is it advisable to stay off the trails while hunting is open? I bowhunted growing up and know that I wouldn't mistake a biker for a deer (especially bowhunting, you gotta be within 40 yards max), so I wouldn't be worried about being shot or anything. But maybe it's being considerate avoiding herding deer around while people are waiting on stand for a few hours?

I would advise staying off the trails. I know that most responsible bowhunters would not shoot anything further out than 35-45 yards, but then most responsible mtb'ers would not ride on trails they know are too wet. I believe we always hope that others that participate in a shared interest are as responsible as ourselves. But then you get that one yahoo who screws it up.

BTW - I'd be more concerned of an errant shot or a clean shot that goes through, but you don't know where. Just my 2 cents.

The bowhunting is typically from the start of the season (this weekend) through December. The hours for hunting are from dawn until 9 a.m. and from 3 p.m. through dusk. These hours are terrible for all of us riding up there but it's something we have to live with for now. We're trying to get the times changed to make things more user friendly or the groups that take care of the park. I'll keep everyone posted if times or dates change.

FYI

There are signs on the road heading up to the park that say "No Hunting 10 am - 2 pm". So it looks like I won't be heading up after work anymore this year. I guess I'll need to start looking for some nice lighting systems...
